forgetting your ball count?

Am I the only one who does this?

During practice, when I miss in the middle of the rack, (I snap my cue over my knee), then I usually keep going from where I left off.

Unfortunately, sometimes when I get to the end of the rack I forget how many balls I made........:scratchhead:

I think we all suffer from the Blockhead Syndrome !!!

just shows how focussed we all are on the patterns and such

I installed an iPhone app that tracks score. I set up a dummy opponent, then record my misses/safes, etc. with it.

Seems to help.

Here is an easy way to keep count (in practice). Use a coin under the rail. Putting it under diamond one means one rack, then each diamond up represents another rack. Also many tables have scoring wheels. I believe there is a thread on how to use those, otherwise I can show you one way if you are interested. Basically you use it like paper. You start with 15, then add 14 for each rack. Then when you miss, you subtract the remaining balls from the number, and you have your ball count.

I'm not familiar in using the coin for 14.1, but for keeping track of 9-ball. When I played 14.1 league I used to forget count all the time. We used beads and I was taught to put up my run at the end of my turn, but don't move the beads over until end of the rack.

So the balls on the table, pocketed and the scores put up has to add up to 15. In this example if only 1 ball is left, then I must've ran 4 balls. Subtract the beads from the balls pockets.

You must buy cues in bulk.

When you miss, count the balls remaining on the table. If you get to the next rack, add 14p to this number and keep adding 14p when you make a new rack (bring 14 balls on the table). Continue until you miss, count the balls on the table and substract those from your "table score" to calculate your run.
This is how it is done in European tournaments. There are hardly any beads in Europe.
