I have seen some of the most amazing and beautiful cues here. It's really made me hesitate to show my ho-hum collection but take pride in what you got, right?

1. An Adams cue that I acquired well used when I was 14 or so (43 now). It's my favorite cue and primary player. I have the original shaft but use a newer shaft made by Russ Espiritu.

2. A Dale Perry from the middle 90's

3. Steve Kornele from 2004. Ivory diamonds & rings. It's a good player but craftsmanship is not the best as there are some sort of rings around the dash-rings (seen in close-up). Any idea what those are? Can they be fixed?

Those "rings" are actually the split lines on either side of the trim rings. They're called "slotted" rings because they start out as billets (wood tubes) of the ebony or dark material that then have slots cut down them in varying widths depending on the # of slots desired, and finally are cut to the desired thickness. Then the alternating material, in this case ivory?, is inlayed into the slots. With your cue, something has caused the rings to shift or expansion/contraction has taken place & made the rings "express" thru the finish - hence the cracks.
Unless there is abuse suspected, I would think Steve Cornele would fix it free of charge, probably just needs to have the butt re-finished.

mdavis hit it right on the head. Expansion and/or contraction of the different materials, at different rates, over time, can cause that. Not unusual to see at all.
