Forums Fault or My Computer?

For the third time in the last couple of days, if I write a post that is fairly long while I'm logged in, for some reason when I try to post or preview the message, it says I'm not logged in. So I log back in (even though I was logged in while writing the post), and then I get this message saying 'Invalid forum specified, please contact that administrator.', and my whole message is gone. I just spent about 20 minutes making a post for a topic, and I lost it because of this. There is nothing wrong with the cookies in my browser, everything is normal. Does anyone know what causes this?

Same thing has been happening to me. I started using the "remember me" option at the log in and it stopped. Sort of frustrating, huh?

Ran into the problem often enough that I create my thread in Microsoft Word and later paste it into the forum.
Works for me but it was frustrating to loose all the time in the initial attempt to post.
My settings to remember me did not make any difference at all.

I THINK but am unsure that the following is happening. Forum software may execute the following logic: if the "ENTER" key is not depressed within a certain amount of time at a forum, you are considered "absent" and are therefore logged out.

I have the EXACT SAME PROBLEM when I try to log onto onepocket.org. Yet, I am able to log into any other forum. What is distinctive about my problem is that I cannot log into onepocket.org on my HOME or WORK computer. Yet, on my Sony laptop that was stolen, I could log onto that site. I had thought previously that it was either because of my work-related software or that I was an AOL user. I have no problems logging into AzBilliards Discussion Forum whatsoever.

I will be following this thread in hopes to read about a cure for this dilemma that seems to affect several of us, but on different sites.

same thing i did,

Don't know where the issue is coming from, as it happens to me too.

Just log back in.

Mine will somethimes go for months without asking and then ask everytime I close the window for a day or two.

Annoying, but harmless.

Mine does not work even if I do log back in. I have to use the remember me option before it will work. I typed a 30 minute pm trying to help another player and then it would not accept the pm, saying that I wasn't logged in. Then, I typed it again and the same thing happened. From now on, I type elsewhere and paste it here.

All I can suggest is the normal stuff, delete temp internet files and delete old cookies.

Rebooting the computer and trying again should work.

This happens to me as well. Whenever I type a long message and hit submit and the login screen pops up, I just hit the back button and copy my message. Your message should still be there if you hit the back button, so you don't have to retype it. After highlighting the message and hitting CTRL-C, i then relogin and paste what I copied.

Yes, it is a nuisance. Whenever I take more than a minute to type a message, I always be sure to copy my message before hitting the submit button.

I ONLY experience this problem on onepocket.org. I have NEVER had it happen to me on AzBilliards. When I do type a message, though, I get through them quickly, thanks to my speedy 150-plus WPM fingers, but it still boggles my mind that I an unable to log onto one site, but yet I have no problems logging onto another, using the same computer.

Before clicking on "Submit Reply", highlight all the text of your message and right click, then copy. Then if it fails to post, you can log back in, go back to the message, reply, then paste what you typed.

Okay Posters

I have run into this problem too, and here is what I do
to 'get around it'. After making a long post, then having
to sign in again, then the 'invalid forum' message,

go to your back button within your browser (Netscape for
me with a history within the back function) and I go back
2 steps to where I originally entered the post, then I hit
submit at the bottom, and it posts it correctly then.

Hope it works for you too.

Note: JMHO, but IE is NOT the best browser, there are
better ones for speed and screen organization and function.

So you don't have to re-type the message

When you are done typing the message, and before you hit preview.

Highlight the entire message, and then hit ctrl/C simultaneously.

Then, when you go to preview, or post, and you have to re log in, you log in, go back to the post you were trying to respond to, go to the message window and hit ctrl/V, and you message pastes into the window.

Since it takes 3 seconds to paste the message, when you go to preview or submit, you won't be logged out, unless you do some final edits that take some time.

At the very LEAST, if you fail to highlight the message a second time after any edits and you are forced to log in yet again, you will still have the original message saved, every time you hit ctrl/C till you save something else.

This fixed it all for me, even when people said it couldn't be fixed..

When AZB switched over, they must have added a new cookie. I had originally tried using the Tools/Internet Options/Delete files and I had also gone into Tools/Internet Options/Delete cookies to delete cookies, but when I rebooted I still had the problem.

I went into Tools/Internet Options/Settings/View Files and deleted the azbilliards.com cookie and PRESTO, it worked again. Didn't even have to reboot. I don't have to log on at all anymore, it automatically recognizes me again. And it doesn't kick me off after inactivity either. Yay! Good luck.

PS - If you have a lot of temp files to sort through to get to the cookie, Go to 'View' on the menu while you have them all up, then go down to 'Arrange icons by Type'. You can also arrange by Name. Either way makes it easier to sort.

PSS - JAM, you will have to find the right cookie for onepocket.org. In the temp files, mine was labeled 'cookie - azbilliards.com'. Hope this helps.

Your problem may be due to the type of server you're accessing and you may need to specify a "proxy server" within the internet settings on your computer(s). At one time I used to know specifics but not anymore. It's a connection settings work-around.

I program in IBM Assembler Language and have been associated with computers since the early 70's when they were still in their infancy.

Good luck.
