Ok, we all know he is from Chicago anyways. But Freddy "the Beard" Bentivegna; pool author, road hustler, Accu-Stats Commentator and Bank Pool Hall of Famer is coming to Pyramid Club in Addison, IL this Thursday night, Jan 13th. He will be there to promote his line of books, DVD's and very cool " Old School Pool " T-shirts. I'm sure he will have quite a few stories to tell as well.

If you are in the area Thursday night, stop in and say hi to the Beard. Also, you will also get a chance to see the best and toughest pool league in the state of Illinois. With 18 tables, 16 GC with Simonis and 2 Diamond barboxes, plus they have a full food menu (it is a restuarant afterall) and a great selection of beers.

Very nice, RJ.

Wish that I could be there, having grown up in the neighboring town of Lombard... but that was many moons ago. I left following HS graduation in '67 except for a couple of summers immediately afterward.

You been in the western burbs for a while? The reason I ask is did you ever play at Swank Billiards on Roosevelt Rd. in Glen Ellyn... or at Lord 'n Lady in Wheaton? Just curious. It would be nice to find someone who did.

Hey RJ, I for one can't wait to see Freddy at the banquet! He's a real legend & character, the life he has lived is one that won't be repeated anytime soon. I hope that someone brings a tripod and camera and records it. It would be fun to look back on it in the years to come. C Ya thursday!

Hey Dan.. Yeah, should be fun. Good idea, I'll bring a camera and snap a few photos. Congrats on your team winning the league this session...It's never easy with this many teams and this many good players. We won many times over the years, but have not been to the winners circle in a few years now :( See ya Thusday..RJ

I've been in St. Charles area for the past 20 years, and in Chicago area for all of my 48 years but I've never heard of either of those places.....how long they been gone now?? Lord N Lady....what a great name, I would have stopped in there to shoot just on the name alone. Well, if you come back to visit I'll take you to some of the new places around town !!

Hi Dave,

Played Dick Swain, Kevin Keough and Johny the Mexican (UGH) at Lord and Lady prior to 65 and some guy by the name of Bill Massey (i think) at the Swank. The spaghetti bender that opened it was rumored to be in or have outfit connections. Also played some guy by the name of Butterfield (?) somewehere that ways but i can't recall where.

Take care, adam

RJ - I have no idea how long they have been closed. They were both thriving rooms in the mid-60s. Both were filled with Gold Crowns (Is?). Swank had more tables, maybe 24. And Lord 'n Lady probably had 14 or so. Their clientele were mostly HS students with a few grisly veterans. Their demise may have been driven by the hippie/drug cultural change of the late 60s. Just a guess.

Thanks for the kind offer. I'll keep it in mind. Let me know if you're ever coming out this way.

Hey Adam... how you doin', brother?

It was such a long time ago that I don't recall many names... sorry. The #1 game was straight pool. Few were playing 9-ball at that time. My buddies and I routinely played 1/9 Odd/Even... I think that what we called it. No, maybe it was Odd Ball... yep, that's it.

By the time mocks was rockin i'd been square for several years. Did you ever play my old road partner Bill "babyface" Blake. Not sure if he wae still around or if he already committed suicide by the time you were up that way. i worked with (Alberto-Culver, real close to mocks) and gambled with a guy by the name of Larry Swanson (two time state bar table champ of some kind) after i got divorced.

i also heard about a monster player by the name of "cotton" who was in the area and, based on what i heard, i knew i didn't want any.

sorry i missed you when you were in the memphis area a while ago, swappin stories would have been fun.

Best of luck, adam

I moved to Glen Ellyn in 1980 and got interested in pool (again) about the same time. Swank was gone by then.

Wish I saw this thread earlier... I just ordered his book from Amazn yesterday! I'll plan to be there tonight. Do you know what time he will start?
