FREE (almost) NYPD SBA Card

Hi all:

I'm a retired NYPD sergeant and I have 15 NYPD SBA cards which I will sign and put my shield number along with your name for the first 15 AZers to donate ten dollars to a worthy Vet.

Please see Matt's post.

Just hit the link, donate $10 and PM me your name and address.

I'll mail them right out CONUS. And I'll update status as we get close to the 15.

Thanks all for helping out on this very worthy cause.

You might want to explain what this is exactly from what I understand it's like most places fop

As a retired sergeant and member of the SBA I am sending a link of this to the SBA and to all the retired NYPD FB groups.
Administrator: Please ban this poster who obviously isn't who he says he is.

Why the negativity?

Yes Jeff, I am a retired NYPD sergeant. Because I offer some cards for free to help out a military family and a vet you have the nerve to post that I am not who I say. You simply could've sent me a pm with your inquiry

If, as a member of the SBA, you feel I am doing something wrong, then contact me directly and let me know what it is exactly that is wrong.

No, the SBA is not the FOP (fraternal order of police)

the sergeants benevolent association is the sergeants Union located in Manhattan on Worth street. It's simply a courtesy card which can be signed by the active or retired member and also has the receipients name on the reverse

You know, here I am trying to do something good at a nominal cost to me and absolutely no personal gain

Jeff! Since you obviously don't need a card. Just do something nice and make a donation to this vet and his family. Surely that's not asking too much

I just feel terrible that the family of this injured vet would see this stupidity emanate from a well intentioned gesture

Thanks to anyone who might feel inclined to make any donation

I will contact the SBA tomorrow and find out if my offer of the cards is inappropriate, if so then I will delete this post with my apologies to anyone at all I may have offended.

Thanks to all

Dave

PS. Jeff. You're welcome to pm me with your telephone number and I'll call you

I did a quick google search regarding these cards and I see that they are readily available to anyone who wants one on ebay and many other sites.

I think this is a very nice gesture by the op and, as he said, he gains nothing other than a little satisfaction of helping out a veteran who was very badly injured by a lightning strike.

Donation sent.

best,

Thank you for doing that Dave. My family really appreciates that. Thank you also to everyone who has donated.

Jeff is right!

Hello all:

I called the SBA offices this morning and inquired if it was Ok to offer courtesy cards for free to individuals that donate to a charity/worthy cause.

I was initially told that it was fine and they saw nothing wrong with it at all.

I further informed the representative, the particulars and that a retired Sergeant, Jeff Rosen believed that it was inappropriate. Of course that prompted them to consult with their counsel (I believe, since the answer took about 5 minutes and was lawyerlike) What I was then told was: '... that although no express prohibition against donated the SBA cards, it was frowned upon since the SBA might be considered a third party and could possibly face liability".

Sorry, but I feel the right thing to do is withdraw my offer.

I wish all the best to "our' injured VET, Luke and his family.

Since Jeff is a fellow officer; and in these really bad times for our brothers and sisters on the streets; fellowship and unity is the order of the day; I'll simply contact Jeff again via PM.

End of story and sorry if my post caused anyone at all any disconcern.

Best Regards to Luke, his family and all.

Dave
