FREE Zinzola Cue

Ok, here's the deal. I've had the domain name zinzola.com for a lot longer than I've been building cues, mainly so that I could use it as an email address. All that's ever been up there have been pictures of my dog and I don't think it's changed in years.

Anyway, I have a website in the works for my cues. It will allow me to keep track of all of my customers, orders and cues history. It will also allow my customers to log in and see what stages their cues are in.

My web designer has been on my ass for a month to get a write up about myself. I could give him a write up about somebody else, but I am not very good at talking about myself (I'm sure my wife would disagree), so I need somebody to write it for me. Since I have no friends, I figured I'd reach out to AZers or anybody else who may happen across this thread.

I'm asking for anybody interested to submit me a write up about me and my cues for my web site. I will be happy to answer any questions via phone or email to help you out.

The winner will receive a basic 4 point cue with veneers from me with two shafts, my standard ringwork and a leather or linen wrap. Any additional options would be available on the cue at the normal cost. The current cost of this cue would be $950 and the current wait time is 6-8 months. US shipping is included to the winner. International shipping charges will apply.

I have not yet determined how I will pick the winner. I will likely have my wife, my web designer and myself read them and pick some that we like and then leave it to a poll on here. If in my mind there is only one clear cut winner, I will just make the decision on my own.

For those of you not familiar with my cues, there are quite a few photos in the cue gallery section.

Here are the specific rules.

1. All questions and entries must be emailed to freecue@zinzola.com. I do not want my PM box filling up with questions.

2. Do not submit a write up with obvious grammar and spelling errors or it will likely end up in the recycle bin.

3. Do not under any circumstances use the letter "u" in place of the word "you" or the number "2" to represent the words "to" or "too". Not only will it end up in the recyble bin, I may also drive to your house and beat you with something shaped like a "u".

4. DO NOT TYPE IN ALL CAPITALS (Marcus).

5. All entries must be received by June 13, 2008 at 5:00 PM EST.

6. Any submission must include name, address, email address and AZ Name (if you have one). If I decide to do a poll to pick the winner, I will not identify the author until a winner is chosen.

Now get to work ...

Great Idea, Tony!! PM me with a phone #, or I will email you some questions about yourself and your life to get working on it. This is a great idea, and a way to use my degree, and get a free cue in the process.

I can't wait to see how this goes!!

Just a suggestion but unless someone knows these things about you:

Where you are from
How did you get started building cues
What are is your philosophy on cue building
What type of construction methods do you use
What are your influences and mentors if any
How long have you been building cues
What options do you offer
.....and about 20 other things it is going to be pretty tough to write anything but boilerplate.

I write bio's and ad copy all the time. With out facts it is very hard to do well.

If you write down a fact sheet about you and your business it will keep you from answering the same questions 100 times.

Good luck with your site. The cues I have seen you post look interesting.

Agreed. Please consider posting some basic facts about your life and business for entrants to draw upon. You'll get a better selection that way, and it'll save you a lot of time.
 
I do agree with you two, but figured that if anybody wants to know, they will ask. I only have to cut and paste once, so it won't take me all that much more time. If I start typing all of my information here, I might end up writing the thing myself.

Ummmm....OK.

So instead of cutting and pasting one time in the thread you are going to answer who knows how many emails/PM's/ and messages and cut and paste to each one of them.

Yes, what are you thinking?

Not everybody is going to ask the same questions. Not everybody is going to ask them the same way.

I am offering a free cue built to the winners specifications that I would not have a problem otherwise selling. I don't care if they want it for themselves, want to sell it, burn it or plan tomatoes with it. Do I need to spoon feed everybody interested as well? Would it be fair to the three people who have already taken the time to give me a long list of questions for me to post their questions and answers so that anybody else interested can benefit from their work? If I do that, I am going to end up with ten or how many ever entries I get that are almost identical. If somebody is interested enough in trying to win, they will take the time to ask the necessary questions.

I don't mind taking the time to answer them. I don't mind spending time on the phone to answer them. I can talk about cues and cue building all day long and it won't bore me. The only thing it will do is slow me down from getting some more work done. I don't anticipate I am going to have hundreds of entries, but if I do, it's the price I'll have to pay.

For those of you who I have not yet answered, I will get to you later tonight. For those of you who I have, don't worry. I am not going to post your emails here.

All emails were answered except for Go Tulane. Yours isn't any longer than anybody elses, but I will get to you in the morning or sometime tomorrow.

Cut and paste usually means you have a master document that you will take the info from. I figured if that was the case why not save all those potential biographers from writing out the who,what,when,where,how questions that are the basics of any biography.

I write this stuff all the time and the basics are always the same. I get that you want different takes on it, but are you really going to put something up that doesnt include most of the questions I asked above?

Thanks JCIN. I wasn't trying to give you a hard time. I just want everybody to come up with their own take on it. If I knew what I wanted, I'd write it myself.

I also don't think anything is free in this world. If you want it, you have to work for it. I have gotten quite a few emails with questions. I have not looked back at any of the others and have taken the time to answer each question.

I'm asking for something from the writers and they're in a sense asking for something from me. I do appreciate anybody who is taking the time to work through this and hope that even if they don't end up with a free cue that there is some way I can repay them.
 
Oh, and Go Tulane, I decided to have a few beers instead of cutting wood tonight, so you have been answered. Anybody who hasn't heard from me will tomorrow.
