Freeze Rack?

Anybody remember the "Freeze Rack"? From about 15+ years ago. Made of Oak (I think). They had a full rack triangle and a diamond nine-ball one.

I was looking on the net for a pic and can't find one.
 
I was given the full one (15 balls) signed by Jim Rempe when I won a 9-Ball tournament about 17 years ago (1990 or so). It hangs on my wall and I will post a photo for you tomorrow. Friends coming over to play pool tonight.:D

I do not use mine as it is too much trouble. It racks "OK." but really isn't worth the effort as it is not a simple matter to get the balls in the rack (as it is with a regular rack).

I think the name was freeze frame when I got it.

Just so I don't mis-lead, Rempe was there as the guest of honor for a store opening. He did not play in the amateur tournament for C-B players.

If I remember correctly the rack cost about $50.00 in 1990 (or so).

That's a neat idea... should push down on the balls as it pushes them together. Based on the comment above though it must not be as effective as it looks.
 
Sorry, it works well and does indeed lock the balls together. It is just more complicated to use than a regular rack and when the guys get to shootng it seems to be cumbersome.

However, it is a very effective rack and if I held a tournament at my home I would use it as the rack because you can't mess around with it in terms of a tight rack.

All in all it is an excellent tool -- just a little cumbersome unless you are very serious about racking.

I have my table marked for the regular rack and lined the old fashioned rack with electrician's tape. It is fast, efficient and there is no complaining because everyone is used to the regular model.

If I wanted to be positive that no one had a complaint, I would mark the table for the freeze frame and use it.

Joe Porper made a similar rack, but the angle was not as flat. You could load all the balls from the top and when you push down, the balls lock in real tight!

I have been looking for one of the Porper racks and no luck....:(
