Freezing tips before installing

Any opinions on the following: When sanding a tip and despite utmost care, I sometimes sand a little too long, thereby overheating, drying out, and ruining it. If I froze the tip before installing, would that let me be more carefree?

Depends on the type of tip your using. If your using one of the new Popcile brand tips, then freezing is a must.

Seriously, I don't see where it would help at all. But, there is potential for damage if your using a layered tip. The layers are glued together and if you freeze the glue it could cause separation.

This was a good question to ask, I however, would not recommend freezing tip prior to installation. When you freeze anything that contains moisture it will first contact and then expand when it is brought back up to room temperature. Now it kinda defeats the purpose of have a pressed tip in the first place. All tips are compressed when they are made, different techniques are used however, they are all pressed. During the contraction and expansion as the tip is frozen and thawed the original compression of the leather will change. The tips hardness will be less than what it originally was when shipped from the factory.

Layered tips may completely delaminated do to being frozen and thawed.
