Friendly money games and what to play for.

Usually I like to play a 7 or 9 ball race to 5 for 25. But the guys around here only play 8 ball. Not that I'm against 8 ball, I play it every monday on my BCA league. it's just that when you're playin for money here, these guys make you call every rail, kiss, carom, etc. No big deal, but if you make a cut and the ball touches a corner point, they say "you didnt call that rail" What do I do about these bs rule calls. When I bust out my BCA book, and say all I have to call is ball and pocket, they call it "slop". Yet these same guys scoop the cue and call that a legal jump shot. WTF? I think my town doesnt have the mentality for pro-style pool. I played a game of 8 the other day. My opponent broke, and didnt make a thing. I ran out all of my balls (ERO) but I didnt bank the 8 and it got called a loss. That is some serious bs.

PKM hit the nail on the head...

Will your BCA buddies not gamble, or at least point you to someone that knows how to????

Seriously, tell these guys to get a clue. House rules rule but that is ridiculous.

Where are these guys and what days do they get paid. I believe I could create a new "environment" for them. That's right down my alley. I'll be your huckleberry.

The only people I gamble with are BCA buddys because of this. Even the local thursday tournament has dumb rules like this. Theres a BCA crew and then theres the other pool players that think they're better than us because they "call" everything.

yeah

no doubt crawdaddy,
I'm curious what a "friendly" money game goes up to.

my area is full of these guys too,
it's fun to beat them with their own rules...

I'll play a safe without hitting anything,
scratch on purpose if the 8 is in the kitchen.
:D

Ok by now we can all assume you get the message that the others are idiots. Good. Now I just wanted to touch on the comment about a friendly bet...a friendly bet is not something we can easily agree on. For example, you take two guys like Fatboy and Jay H and ask what is friendly for them and it could be 3 or 4 figures higher than the most you have played for. You ask the paperboy and its race to 5 for $1. The only way for you and you opponent to place a friendly bet is to place a bet in your personal comfort zone. The concept of friendly bet is that the loser doesn't lose their shirt and therefore create hard feelings or problems at the time to let the cash go. For me a friendly bet is $20 to $40 a set. With guys that are very good friends who are trying to learn from me, like my good buddy Snorks, we just play for beer. The way we look at it is, let's have a beer and some fun. He wants to beat me so he can say he can, and I want to pound him so he can't. See? Friendly like! :D

Why don't you just make sure that you understand the "House Rules' and beat them at thier own game????

Go get'em ........:D

If you are the better player it doesn't matter what the rules are, just make sure that they stay the same no matter who is shooting. I lost one game on a local bank the eight rule. I thought the guy was BS'ing me but noticed that they were indeed banking the eight on other tables. No big deal, after that I just set up for an easy bank on the eight instead of setting up to shoot it straight in. At the time my usual spot to bar room players I was friends with was shooting a bank or legal combination on every ball, I didn't tangle with a player in that town that banked as well as I did.(small town :D )

I even like people creating rules as they go because I'm sure to burn them with one of their own "rules" before the night is over. Always worth it to see the look on their face when they get nailed by their own BS.
