From Predator to Maple Shaft

I'm looking at doing the reverse swap - back to a Maple shaft after using Predator for a while.

Has anyone does this with out too many problems?

I have tried a Southwest and love solid hit and the feedback from the joint, but if I try and use English it just doesn't work

If anyone has any ideas or even any suggestions on cuemakers shafts that deflect less it would be appreciated :D

I have, i used a predator for a while, maybe two years, but i newer felt totally comfortable with those shafts, i dont know why.
Then i changed to custom shafts, and i actually like them better.
I think i feel more thru the customs, but maybe its just in my head:D
But i think this is very personal, some love the way the predators feel, i think i just dont like the way they play.

I did last night; I decided this after I shot a few practice games on my table. I shot some of my best pool last night on league. But I am not condoning it because I can pick up a warp house cue and shot good with it, when I got it I got it. I just realized that I like the stock feel of the Josey shaft. The Predator is lighter in the front. And right now I am majorly revamping my game, lessons, the whole works. And I feel I get more controll with the mass on the front end for stability. I do intend to go back to the 314 or maybe a different Lam. shaft like Ob-1 or something different if it comes along. This of course after I have more confidence in my abilities.

I've tried several predator shafts on differant cues, and always like the hit and feel of the solid maple shafts better, just the way I feel.

I could never get used to the shaft either. I have always like a solid cuemaker's shaft over a laminated shaft any day. Conical taper over the 314's pro taper any day. I play with my buss and won't turn any other way but custom....

I switched back without too much trouble. However I don't use a lot of English so that may have made the transition easier.

Me too. Also when I switched back I switched to a Schuler PP-114 shaft, which is pretty stiff (doesn't bend much).

Yeah the majority of shots I hit better with the maple shaft, it's just the cuts and a lot of spin down the table.
I would argue in fact that my position is more precise after just a couple of shots.

You might be the perfect candidate for a Tiger "X" Laminated shaft. I played with a 314 for six straight months (peer pressure mainly) and never got used to the damn thing. My game went down 4 plus balls.

Once I put it down, I dialed right in with an "X" Shaft. I think I have a very feel oriented game. That is exactly what I lost with the 314.

You wouldn't be the least bit biased would you?:D

I changed from the Southwest shaft to a 314 about 4 months ago and will never change back.I can't belive the hit and feel I get from this cue now(Jerry would be impressed).Very predictable and the english is amazing. Also my game improved noticably and i'm putting together at least 1 50-70 ball run almost everytime I shoot 14.1.....I also tossed the Lepro and put a Morri Q3 tip on.

it depends on how well u can adapt to each shaft..personally i prefer the maple shaft as i can calculate deflection n stuff..
it's said that 314 can produce more spin but i'd rather brush up my stroke rather than to just rely on technology..i
i've switched from maple to 314 n now i'm gonna switch back cos i've incured too much unnecessary spin..
try out 1st b4 sticking to which ever shaft u like :)

Yeah I think people don't grasp the consistency with the 314. It seems to limit your sense of cue ball pace. Just look at all these guys from the Phillipenes and Taiwan etc..

ps. Crown City Cory - I used to use a X shaft :p
I find it sits somewhere in between a maple shaft and a 314...
