Sorry for this thread, but I _have_ to get it out!

Like, I've traveled for almost 10 hours for competing in the Norwegian championship for Juniors this weekend. I traveled with two of my mates.

9-ball and straight pool is the games for this weekend. I have been looking forward for this tournament all year, but when the draw came out last night I was very disapointed. First, in straight pool I am playing one of the guys that i am traveling with, and practise with every day, boring. And then, I f*cking draw the same guy in the 9ball tournament. Even more boring!

What to do? Isnt there any rules against this??!??! :D

look on the bright side, at least one of your group will win a match....

seriously, that happens and you can't have rules against it otherwise everybody would travel with Efren so they won't have to play him....

It ALWAYS happens. As said, at least one of you is guaranrteed to win! Just try to make it you and fun too!

I don't know about any rule against it, but......

I was talking to a pool room owner, and he opened my eyes a little on tournaments.

If you look closely at tournament brackets, you will notice that it is usually set up so that certain players/groups(regions) are evenly distributed near the end of the brackets (near the quarter finals).

Let's say you have 5 regions of players in a tournament, and 1 region is comprised with 50% of the players. The other 4 regions of players will be set up, such that near the end of the bracket, a player from each of the 5 regions will be competing.

Take a look at some of the pro tournaments. Notice how the top pros are playing a bunch of unknown players, until the finals.

The tournament wants to increase the probability of top (well known) players to match up in the finals.

The only way to have a truly random drawing, is to use the pea pod bottle...or a random number generator (software program).

I cannot say whether I agree or disagree with loading a tournament bracket. I understand the tournament's point of view, and the minority player/groups point of view.

I think the bottom line is......you are there to compete. It doesn't matter who you are playing....because ultimately, the best players will rise to the top.

8ball alex,

dont feel so bad, your chances with 17 and 19 guys is actually pretty high...

Now i did have one tourny back in 08, drove over an hour with a friend of mine, and the tourny gets like 60players, and I have to play my first match against my friend......

Now it wasnt set up,,,,, cuz everyone draws cards for the bracket. it just happens....

But like someone else said, about the big tournys, its funny how most of the known players, are spaced out so they dont have to play anyone "good" till the 3rd or 4th round.
