Ending this Sunday evening 1/31, I'm auctioning off my Birdseye Maple Tad Kohara Pool Cue. My guarantee is simple, 100% satisfaction or return for complete refund. If the buyer feels that their dissatisfaction is due to a misdescribed auction, I refund all the postage as well.

This cue is being auctioned with no reserve price. The high bidder will win the cue. This auction won't disappear suddenly. I don't end auctions early. I don't have items for sale locally. This auction will run to the end. Interested buyers will all have an equal chance to bid and win the auction.

I think that in playability and quality of hit, dollar for dollar, this cue might outperform any other stick available this week.

I hit a few balls with this cue and was blown away. What a feel! If I had the money, it would be in my case.

Shafts

I've been selling a couple of Tads a month for a some months now and have been lucky enough to have some Tad experts as my buyers. I've asked them why they feel that the TAD hit is so unique and legendary. When you look at Tad cues, they are obviously well made with great attention to detail, but they look (joint and butt construction) much like many other highly regarded custom. I've heard many opinions (probably all true), but I'm thinking its the shaft wood (as well as Tad construction techniques).

1) Tad told me in 1977 that he had shaft wood to last him for life. Now if it turned out he did need to acquire more, I don't know. But seeing he has been making cues since the early 1960s, we can rest assured he has a river of wood as long or longer than anybody.

2) I think afyer 40+ years one would become pretty good at choosing the shaft blanks that suit. Those of you that think you know your jobs pretty well after 20 years, double that and factor in loving what you do and there's Tad.

3) I think its maybe shaft density (am I using the right term?) that contributes to the unique Tad hit. Look at the weights of those shafts considering the diameters. I think they are pretty heavy (is that dense?).

Anyway, just some TADish thoughts. The auction is off to a good start (thanks to those involved in the bidding thus far). Hopefully it will rise to a million so I can take next week off.

Thanks for that.

I bought a cue from Tad in 1977 ($225). Before he handed me the finished product, he screwed it together and tapped the joint against the heel of his palm, listening and feeling for some quality that only Tad could know. He smiled up at me and announced "good as one-piece". I'll never forget it, the ultimate cue compliment.
