I've managed to stay out of flame wars on this (and every) board, but really feel that I have to ask this----

Why is it that some of us feel that it is socially acceptable to get on a "for sale" thread and ***** about the price? Or call cues overpriced and overrated?

I mean really, if you don't like the price or the cue, how much effort would it take to just jump to the next thread without trying to piss in someone's pool?

Oh yeah, while I'm here...I love the look of this and other Sugartrees. When I free up some cash, I'm getting one. (Or, more accurately, as soon as my wife lets me, I'm getting one. )

I don't know. Why do some people feel like it's okay to take their 'holier-than-thou' attitudes and climb up on their soapbox?

Tough questions, but we all have opinions, and this is a discussion forum.

Hatred for cue flippers?

wasn't cue flipping (and lying, plus a mean streak) what got shorty in so much trouble and eventually banned from AZ ?

I think Jack Flanagan in thread a few years back summed up all this garbage pretty well. he said those who always think that price improves the shootability of a cue generally fall in the "cue whore" category. ;)

someone fill me in on "shorty" and cue flipping, lying, whoring and all that good stuff.

Shorty was in the process of getting bounced when I first stumbled into the forum cyber world.

Next time HAL visits JOB buy him a beer and see if he'll share his first hand experience's.

I've caught Shorty's act on one of the other forums and he, by and large, makes positive contributions. As far as I know he's never stiffed anybody for goods or $ when dealing.

that cue is worth 1500 based on performance alone, you wont find a better playing cue for 1500 period. it isnt hype to make Sugartree owners feel good or some ploy to inflate he price, christ sakes whats $500 these days? the fact is for the $$$ its the best playing cue there is, a plane jane Tad might be the next step up and to me they play equal, the Szams play a bit better in most cases I have a couple that dont, in a few years Eric will be up there with the best of the best, he is head and shoulders above any "new" cue maker there is now. dont knock it till you try it.
Depending on how you define "new", that is the biggest load of crap I have read on here in a LONG time.

What is he doing that is so "head and shoulders" above anyone else? Full-splice mitered veneers points? Ring work that is out of this world? Inlays and designs that boggle the mind?

I apologize for the rant, but I couldn't take it anymore. I wish Eric the best with his cue making. Everything I hear says that he is a great guy, trying to build the best cue he can. I also am NOT trying to knock the seller or his sale. If a buyer likes a plain cue with really nicely figured wood, this could be the one for him/her. Based on recent Sugartree sales, the asking price is not out of line IMHO.

This hyperbolic hype is over the top though.

p.s. my rant bumped the seller back to the top, too . . . . .

IMO, Erik builds some of the most solid, well playing cues with some of the nicest figured woods I have ever seen. The hit is superb. They are players. They are not collectors pieces to be stuck on a mantle and gawked at. They are meant to be taken to a table and used and abused. The feedback is phenomenal with his cues. You just have to hit one in order to understand the hype...then you realize, it's not hype.

I purchased one of Eric's cues from New2YouQues and it was a good cue but I did not think it was head and shoulders above many of the other cues I have owned (to name a few Cognoscenti, Gilbert, Brick, Jensen, Tad, Gina, Searing, Tascarella, Bender, Kersenbock, Omega DPK, Southwest, Bluegrass, Showman and several others). I went ahead and sold mine because I could not resist making a 75% profit on a relatively simple and inexpensive sneaky pete. I think his cues are very good players, but I have played with one and I guess I to not have enough feel to claim it to be the greatest hitting cue on earth, man I wish I had not sold that simple looking Omega DPK for 100.00 profite ten years ago:(

Like others said the value of the cue is what is sells for, good luck with the sale.

I think you misquoted me a bit, Dee,,,,,,,,,what I think I said was "cue snobs",,,,,,,lol  ;) :p

Thanks Dan!

The cue is comming home for a visit. I will probably resell it later at a future date. It will definately have light play on it next time it is sold.:)

Thank god you bought this cue because I was just about on the cusp of doing the deed....

For all naysayers about Eric's cues, just try them out. Guys, I'll be the very first to say that I too was a doubter....yeah, yeah, what's all the hype about these plainish cues by this new guy. If you are like a lot of us and like the flat face, big pin joint configuration, you will see what the hype is about. Perfect taper, superb shafts, only nicely figured woods. Man, can't wait for mine now !! :)

can i get a hell ya....me too!!!!...they are the bomb...,and i've never played one yet...i'm still waitin'...but i'm comin' after you...be scared!!!

Ya, it may be overstating things a bit, but I ordered mine before all the "hype" based on the beauty of his woods, his knowledge of cue building, the quality of his shaft wood(y'all seen how fast the blanks went when they were posted here!!!) and he is a very nice man and great to deal with. Ok, it's fair to say, I'm really looking forward to receiving mine when it's done...and no, it won't be for sale:D
