FSR -The Elephant in the Room

All the new prize earnings records being set should qualify this as a new era of pool.

This era standing out from previous generations in categories like social media, addition of majors, record setting total prize money and equipment analysis.

FSR has the streak. His entry for Hall of Fame status can be a fun wait.

135,000 a year is pitiful for the top player in the world. I doubt if his expenses are paid either , so deduct 25 grand for those and all the entry fees and you end up with what someone at an Amazon warehouse makes
That's $135K though April, so on pace for $400k. I think most of the people in Amazon warehouses are closer to $40K.

If this game continues to evolve with MR at the helm. Most of the best players on the planet will be under 25 years of age. Having great eyesight and senses that come with youth..... ''that's the way it's headed''.

Be cool to see the reactions of a 16 yr old with his girlfriend after the win.
Golf tho, won't allow this age group to win, I wonder why?
Probably not enough muscle development yet?????
Thoughts?

Wu from S. Korea won the Worlds at the age of 16.
No age minimum for US Open. A few have played Tour events younger even though age minimum is now 18 for Tour membership. Spieth, Justin Thomas, Tiger I think played a few. Although age min came after Tiger was established I think. Ty Tryon spurred it. Tad Fujikawa. Yeah I had to google age minimums to remember them. I don’t think a 16 year old could really be ready for full time PGA Tour play. Precious few 18 year olds really. Tiger was as ready as any and waited until 21 and 3 US Ams. Some of the women can be ready sooner, but they have had their share of too much too soon. Players are getting better younger and lasting longer, but the prime for men’s golf still has to be 25-34. Look at how many take a bit to get going then get better in their mid 20’s. And who else never won a major after 34. Very few after 44.

I just looked it up and in the NBA Stephen Curry makes $119.000 per day.

Wu Chia Ching at the time was from Taiwan. He now represents China. He changed the “spelling” of his name to Wu Jiaqing when he moved to China.

Amazing and unique to pool players is many top tier and hall of fame pros are first generation billiard stars.

Its not like other sports or entertainment industries where once a family establishes itself they hold key roles or positions.

The emergence of the next great pool player of the era is unpredictable. FSR is a great candidate. Due to other conditions the global pool contingent has not competed as a whole for awhile.

Will the frequency of events create a better battle for the top spot?

Yes, and pool players will make that, too, if and when they generate the kind of money that Steph Curry does for his employers and sponsors. For example, the owners of the Golden State Warriors paid $450 million for the franchise. It's now worth $7 billion.

Crap; that is not a good yearly income:: anyone that gets an advanced degree in computer science or compute engineering or electrical engineering or mechanical engineering can get more than that as a salary these days with health care and other benefits.
True. But they won’t have groupies;)

Athletes can be the best in their discipline. If they can't show or demonstrate they have the fan base, then sponsors will not turn up. Movie stars generate huge sums of profit, but if they promote smaller products do not produce the same results.

Paying the best athlete is easy when there is money and income generated.

It has been clearly discussed by many members on the forum how important it is for top pool players to take ownership of their ability to promote the game and their reputation. Jeanette Lee is the most successful at both.

The global emergence of billiards as a world tour is being realized. The business side has always been ready to expand, do the players have the know how to make it thrive? As a fan it would be nice to see them promote language or local customs like food or music. SVB in PI is a nice start. Matchroom or Predator could do promos about what to know in exotic countries. Players try to do it, mostly Iceman and Pearl.

How long can players use the same tactics for promoting the game hoping for new results? In other industries that is called going crazy.

Gorst was grounded. His earnings were not from tourneys with MR size purses
I get that, but the point is that given the difference in how both players collected their money, it’s not doesn’t definitively establish Fedor as the better player. He may well have won more money than FSR if he had equal opportunities, but he didn’t. You can’t give him credit for what he might have done. Fedor may be the best in the world, but the AZ list isn’t an accurate measure in this discussion because Fedor is ahead simply by virtue of being more active.

In most sports there is an emerging rookie class. Of the class some players are more noteworthy than others.

It is also challenging to say rookie class in billiards because that might mean being on tour 10 years or less.

There are not enough new players each year to recognize their addition with titles.

By performance rating over that last year or the last 1,500 games, three players are neck and neck: Filler, Gorst, Sanchez Ruiz. There is a decent sized gap to the next bunch.

Let's not carried away here. The player of the year argument was very close in 2022.

FSR took the US Open 9ball and World 8ball. Filler won the UK Open and gold at the World Games. Elsewhere, Filler won the Derby City 10ball and World Pool Masters, got silver at the Derby City 9ball and was Mosconi MVP, as Sanchez-Ruiz won the Derby City 9ball and World Cup of Pool and got silver at the UK Open.

FSR met Filler in three finals in 2022: Sanchez-Ruiz won at the Derby City 9Ball and Filler won at the UK Open and at the Slovenia Open.

Not arguing with those who say FSR is best, but to say he's much the best is delusional.
