FUENGIROLA: BCA Tournament

Anyone noticed how many different people from Fuengirola played in the BCA tournament and came in the money? They must have a lot of serious pool players from Fuengirola. If they weren't winning the tournament they were coming in the money in all divisions to boot.

Is that in Spain? I did noticed a big group from there, my friend played one and they are pretty obnoxious on a whole, smoking in the tournament room, talking and yelling when thier friends opponants are shooting. My firend played one and she rarely has problems with anyone and she was even annoyed.

Fuengirola apparently is in Spain. That is too bad about the reputation they are building. Last year I played in the BCA singles 8 ball tournament and I met and played a young fellow from Barcelona, Spain and his pool etiquette was excellent. In fact, I got the impression that from the way he handled himself that people from Spain have a lot of class. LOL. That's too bad about the group from Fuengirila.

Hi Joey,

I also played a young man from Spain in the Men's Masters. In all the years I've played in Vegas, only one bar box player ever impressed me as much with his cue ball control (Barry Emerson). Just as I began to feel sorry for myself about getting steamrolled, I noticed he promptly one/twoed out of the event. Which guy did I play? We both cashed in the same position! Some friends told me he played the match of his life. Some said he was just plain lucky. Either way, he still beat me.

I went to play in Fuengirola a few years ago and they do have some class players there....there is one excellent little club forget the name now but it has little arenas built around most of the tables....
 
The Spanish Federation are probably the best organised pool organisation in the World thanks to such people as Fernando Requena, Juan Dominguez and Peter Aprile. I have attended many of their events, some with up to 1500 players. They are all impeccably dressed and their behaviour is beyond reproach. They have some World Class players in David Alcaide, Sammi Kaddur, Francisco Diaz and Danny Sanchez.

I'm sure I played Francisco here in the States several years ago. He is about 5' 6", plays left handed, literally runs around the table firing shots. Reminds me of Luc Salvas or Lou Butera. If he is the same guy, I agree on him being World Class. Glad he went home! :p

Is this Francisco Diaz? This is the only "Francisco" I know from Spain. He was traveling the circuit several years back here in the States. He's sweet as can be and can play, no question about it! :)

Hi JoeyA,

I think I cashed two levels in. Whatever that is. When I took my payout form to the BCA desk, the girl reminded me that that was the worst I'd done in the Masters! Wasn't she nice. I finished 16/24 four consecutive years till then.

I'm not sure how you mean Barry's a HOG. I've been impressed with his demeaner and his play every time I've seen him. I thought he was a class act.

Found this old thread and see I didn't respond. (my bad) Barry lived in my neck of the woods and was a fearless player and seldom missed. He always handled himself with class.

I lost to Francisco in the VNEA speed pool championship finals in '06 (if I recall the year right) and must agree that he was a complete gentleman to play against and a really nice guy to boot. It was pretty incredible because he had the Spanish cheering section competing with the Canadian section to see who could cheer the loudest during the match. I've never had that much adrenalin pumping through my system...just wish I'd managed to beat him because first place was an 18.5' Bayliner boat/trailer.

Barry lived in different parts of USA like I did and he now lives in one of the suburburbon towns of Dallas/FT.worth.:cool:
