I was up at my usual hall celebrating my friend?s birthday. 2 rum and cokes, 3 jager shots, 3 beers, and 3 long islands and I'm in a very good mood.
The guys at the table next to us start woofing about wanting to play the oldest guy at our table, a player I have always had enormous respect for, but at the same time, I recognize that I have started to surpass him. So he plays these guys some funky 8 ball rules that they seem to be making up as they go along, and he is down about $20 (1 game). The party starts breaking up and I ask if I can jump in and play partners. I personally hate playing partners, but I wanted to get my friends money back. They agree and we start playing $20 a game. Now here is where it gets fun. Every time one of the guys heads to the bathroom, the other guy challenges my partner in a singles match for $20 to $50 a game. I don?t think he lost a single challenge.
To make a long story short, I finished up $60 which barely covered table time, the cab ride home, and about $10 of my $80 bar tab. My friend had to finish up at least $120 from the singles action. I could not care less, I had a ball and it was the first money game I've played in months. I'm not much of a gambler, but damn that was fun. I doubt I would feel much different if we had lost, it was just plain fun.
