fun with bamboo

the bamboo ferrule seems to be standing up, so i guess the next step would be to build a butt using laminated bamboo. the biggest problem i found was the weight. bamboo is very strong but it is light. as much as i do NOT like stainless pins and joints i needed them for the weight, so i made this cue with a 3/8 by 10 pin and a stainless joint. the balance point seems to be about 19 inches. i do not remember who, but one of the other builders here has already tried to make a bamboo shaft, and said it was very whippy not good for a shaft. so i used maple with a bamboo ferrule. it should be finished this week. i can't wait to hit a few and see what i have created, a great cue or a great pos.
photos next week if the finish gods are smiling

You can use powered lead(or tungsten if you are rich) and mix it into epoxy behind the pin for more weight.

The scrub brushes we use on boats are bamboo, as are most of the gaffs...

It is very whippy...

Good stuff Chuck. Day off tomorrow so will be going hunting for new ferrule material myself. Can't wait to try it out myself.

Thanks for the help.

i cant feel the difference

with the bamboo ferrule or no ferrule, the difference is so small, but some people want a ferrule, so the bamboo is my 2nd choice. the cue is finished and photos are in the cue and case section.
