This reminds me of the old Mad Magazine column 'Dear Debbie', which was a lampoon of the popular Dear Abby. Folks would write their woes to Debbie, many were similar to the 'Dear John' above. Debbie would reply to the request for advice with a simple 'Oh, how very dire', or 'Oh, My. You certainly have more than your share of problems'.
