I was a bit too young for the first run. I saw it on one of the theater rereleases. My friend’s father snuck us in, 76 or 79 can’t remember which.
Has to be the property owner protecting long term value, no?

It is censors for the provider, broadcast or streaming service, are doing the shredding, Not Mel Brooks or the production company that owns it.
