Fusco-Davenport....on now

This is a great match for anyone who likes 9B. It has a bit of everything in it. Some amazing shots, a few easy balls missed, great breaks, a couple bad breaks. Some amazing stroke shots-cloth wasn’t fast and they are amazing shots. There’s nothing not to love about this match. The commentary was spot on. Buddy Hall & Cardone both in good moods.

The Reno tourney was always special to me, this was in 93. I was living in Vegas by then and missed this one. It was at the peak of the Sands tourneys. I went to most of them from June 85 to 90/91.

If you like 9B and want to see quality 9B this is THE match.

And no I don’t get commission for recommending it. I just want people to enjoy what they watch and this is something special.

Totally agree. I attended twice and it was great. MatchRoom should think about hosting a tourney in Reno.

This is the first time I've seen this match and while viewing I thought Jimmy was going to lose but he rallied and never slacked.

Fusco was always a tough competitor. At ‘92 US Open when Sigel destroyed the field, it was Fusco who gave him his only tough match. Got over 100 and lost tough match to Capt Hook.

Kim was playing with an ITS GEORGE cue and Jimmy was playing with a Schick.

That Schick looked slick. Wish we had better pictures of it. Thank you.

I can’t find pictures of that cue. But it appears to be one of Bill Schick’s Chicago-style cues. It was one of his original designs that provided lots of variations. A good shot of the cue appears at 2:28:45.

Speaking of Schick, is he working again? He said he was moving his shop after he closed the poolroom but i've heard nothing since. He's up there in yrs but he talked like he was gonna work a few more yrs.

Some Kickin' Chicken observations:

1. what a treasure, indeed. Thanks for sharing Gar.

2. had no problem whatsoever id'ing the balls. Good old traditional colors, easy to discern, even on a 1993 broadcast. #aintbrokestopfixing

3. The table rails and cloth looked like a war was taking place because one was. Chalk & powder everywhere.

4. By the end of the match Kim's player area needed a housekeeping crew. Lots of towels thrown on the floor, sticks splayed all over, again, evidence of the war that was underway

5. Both players lighting up cigarettes during play

6. Great match, great play.

7. Great commentary although I think they both missed two calls.

8. Cloth was s-l-o-w.

9. After Jimmy wins and while waiting for him to give an interview, Billy says Jimmy just "wants to light a cigarette and take a drag and feel that smoke go down into his chest."
