Fusco's The Spot (smoking allowed - nasty)

I have never been there, but if by chance for some unknown reason I find myself in that part of the country, I will DEFINITELY stop in to check it out. If nothing else, I think this thread has probably helped Fusco's more than hurting it!

I'm sure smokers who can't deal with stepping out to smoke will be drawn to The Spot. Just as much as non-smokers will continue to avoid it. With non-smokers being the majority, I'm not sure how this could benefit them. :)

But people will still ride that high horse and tell me what I should or shouldn't be doing, and these days of public shaming to influence thoughts and steer an outcome is not only ridiculous, it just isn't how grown folks should act.

How many of you would quit The Spot if Pete banned smoking?

Where else would you go?

To the next smoking poolroom?

How far is that?

Farther than a few steps to the designated smoking area outside?

Its not about the smoker. It never was. ;)

This is what discussions can produce, and while not always easy or fun, I think they are absolutely necessary.

Thankfully this is a subject that is becoming decreasingly necessary. Not many smoking rooms left. Most have learned that have a designated smoking area outside isn't such a bad thing. ;)

I havnt read every post in this thread but i do feel the need to comment on what i have read. First thing . petey is a very close friend of mine and to say that his pool room is terrible because he allows smoking is wrong. and trying to knock the room is even worse, not to menetion you need a membership to play and real big in the front is a sign that says smoking is permitted so if it bothered you that much than maybe you should have asked for your $2 membership fee back and left or better yet not even stay and play. Because petey has put alot of money sweat and tears in that pool room and it by far is one of the nicest pool rooms in the COUNTRY and the idiot clammont POSTED THAT IT WAS A SHIT HOLE AND TO PLAY AT DREXELINE BILLIARDS INSTEAD. well drexeline billiard club happens to be my home poolroom and bob madoff is also a close friend of mine he has known me since i was 13 years old and yes drexeline is an amazing and beautiful pool room and also one of the nicest rooms ive been in, but by no means is it fair to say that the spot is a dump . So If you are in the philly area there are 2 beautiful poolrooms . drexeline billiards, and fuscos the spot the main difference is drexeline does not allow smoking and fuscos does. so depending on your prefrence thats how to choose were to play .BUT BOTH ROOMS ARE BEAUTIFUL AND IF YOU ARE EVER LOOKING FOR ACTION HAVE THE HOUSE MAN AT EITHER ROOM CALL VINNY AND I WILL BE RIGHT OVER TO PLAY SOME.

Sweet. Next time I'm in Phlly I know who to donate to.

BUT BOTH ROOMS ARE BEAUTIFUL AND IF YOU ARE EVER LOOKING FOR ACTION HAVE THE HOUSE MAN AT EITHER ROOM CALL VINNY AND I WILL BE RIGHT OVER TO PLAY SOME.

They are fantastic rooms, I think we all agree.

The main difference is Bob Maidhof (Drexeline Billiards) protects his healthy clients, by providing a smoking area outside. So everyone is happy.

I'm not sure why some folks get so emotional (not you but some of the other folks).

Nobody is taking anything away from anyone. Its a few steps outside. Such drama. :D

I really don't have a dog in this hunt but it seems to me the first question is "Does Pete want a smoke free room or a smoker friendly room?" If he wants a smoke free room go for it and more power to him. But the investment is his and the choice should be his. No one has to go there to be able to play pool so if the place doesn't suit you, go somewhere else.

Who on the side opposite you is getting dramatic and emotional ? Some here just like to smoke while playing pool and or enjoy a debate.

Due to the rise in popularity of vaping the chances are good that cigarette smoking will continue to decline in favor of nicotine vapor. Once it becomes regulated by the BATF then smoking will rebound.

As the laws for private clubs take them out of the public anti-smoking statutes in most states and cities, there is a pretty solid chance that the only changes that "The Spot" will make toward this will come from loss of revenue.

Thanks for acknowledging the healthy fatties playing at Drexeline. It is a myth to say that the healthy people are those who stay inside.

Also in the first post you didn't mention it was built as a club... in a lot of states that is the loophole that allows smoking and "other" activities like poker tournaments, "bachelor" parties...

Cigar clubs are very popular... he should stock some cigars, he might get more business.

Why the drama, not like there aren't non-smoking rooms in Philly or the surrounding areas....

Well implying it is a standard pool room is facetious at a minimum. The fact still remains you have other options as does every one else. Sounds like he is catering to a part of the populous you don't care for and I am sure they don't care that you don't care for them.
Go to Bob's room it's a nice non smoking room, and don't worry about everybody else. Believe me other people can make their own choices.

Poolmouse stated it is a great room with great equipment. He then stated the smoke bothers him and he will probably not go back.
He is not bashing the room on a public forum... he said it was a great room with great equipment. I swear people do not read or think about what is posted before they reply.

The drinking and obesity comments are silly. I have not seen a drinker force a shot down anyone's throat nor have I seen an obese person run around the room injecting others with second hand fat.

If the owner wants to allow smoking so be it... if a person wants to publicly announce that smoke bothers them so be it.

I been regular since tacony closed down. one of the reasons I dinndnt go there befor was cause of smoking. even tho I never smoked a day in my life I go knowing they smoke, mainly because of the action, there is all kind of action there so I have to put up with it. but I knew that going in. if u want action its the only place that's close to north east philly, I go home at night burn my clothes and take a shower for my wifes sake no matter what time. my point is its all about choice, if there was a place with one pocket action that dindnt smoke I would go there,

Drexeline has one pocket action. I go to both rooms but mainly Drexeline. Not sure who you are but I'm sure we can make a game. ( if we haven't already. ). Granted - the majority of action at Drexeline is during the day. Pm me and hopefully we can work something out.

Interesting, from what I've read Tacony Billiards allowed smoking.

http://www.yelp.com/biz/tacony-billiards-philadelphia

Tacony is a good place for a friendly game of billards with friends. I haven't been there in a while but the reason I stopped going was because of all the smoke. The place was always full of smokers making it hard for me to breath (a non-smoker).

With the vast majority of pool players being non-smokers, room owners who allow smoking inside are shooting themselves in the foot.

I can understand how smokers would have a hard time with this being discussed openly.

The words "smoking" and "private club" are inconspicuous on their Facebook page:

Seems a bit like bait and switch scenario, not surprising given how some folks are not happy word is getting out.

Its good folks are openly talking about this. If smokers are Pete's target audience, this can only help his bottom line.
