Today, in an era when everybody is trying to go green and live a sustainable lifestyle, using LESS resources and re-using what we already have, furniture makers are joining in the fray to produce ecofriendly furniture.
I saw on this year's Kentucky Derby that California racetracks, trying to be ecofriendly, are using a dirt for their tracks made from old paper, being green and sustainable.
Today, you can get countertops made out of compressed newspapers or tile which has been made out of leftover pieces of tile. The whole point is to save the earth's resources.
The building trend, according to the National Association of Home Builders, is not only to go green, but now there are communities being developed for the 50-plus homeowners, which hopefully will produce homes with little maintenance for people in the autumn of their life.
Furniture like this Fushion Table by Aramith is exactly what is coming to markets everywhere. People don't need 3,000-square-foot homes today, and it is best to use what space in your home that you have to its fullest extent.
Here's a piece of furniture I am trying to get for my foyer. It is a shoe cabinet. The school of thought is that when you enter a home, take off your shoes and place them in one of these drawers, it keeps the pollutants, toxins, and dirt in the foyer and they are not tracked throughout the house. The bottom drawer pulls out to be a bench, so that you can sit down and remove your shoes more easily. I love it, love it, love it.
The Fusion Table by Aramith is keeping up with the furniture makers and homeowners new trend, noting its multi-purpose use.
This shoe cabinet is a unique piece of furniture that was designed by house planner Jack Thomasson. Not only is it beautiful, it helped the home achieve its Gold LEED status. That's today's Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval in the year 2008.
Here's the shoe cabinet I want below. It's on back order right now.
Now today, in order to conserve gas, prevent pollution, and be more green, I am going to hop aboard the D.C. Metro to go downtown, a subway. I used to enjoy driving my car, paying $15 a day for parking, and having it there, so that I could come and go as I please. Public transportation is the way for me today. Plus, I get a little more exercise in from the walking.
