ok, probably stupid question of the yr, but what is the G-10 material?

i heard about a cue maker using it to make the joint screw on his cues, but it looks plastic and like it would break off really easily.

> G-10 is a acronym for Garolite-10/FR-4,which is basically a combination of fiberglass strands set in epoxy. It's primary use is as an electrical/thermal insulator, and it also has uses in electronics and is used by NASA. It is rated at 110 on the Rockwell M scale, takes about 20,000 PSI to break it in half (shear strength),and is said to be very tricky to machine. As a joint pin,it is as light as it gets, with a pin weighing about 1/10 of an equal sized stainless screw. Joe Gold uses it almost exclusively, and was probably the first to use it. It is usually a whitish color, with a slight green tint. I can't imagine how slick a G-10 tip must be,but I have seen them in several different versions now. Tommy D.

Stupid ANSWER, but I would think it would be Hard On Balls, and Posdsibilly Explode on Impact with BALLS.... G-10 is Very Strong, and VERY HARD..... ;)

Not a stupid question, more less just trying to get feedback on this material. I've installed several tips, and tip-ferrule comb on some customers cues and I also put one on my break cue. The G-10 material IMHO works great I like it better than Phenolic material, but to each their own. The material is very strong and very difficult to work with in a way. So from the looks of it the material is very durable and solid. Thanks for the responses.

From what I hear it breaks like a monster but very hard to control the cb. Ive seen some cues that have a g10 tip/ferrule combo just like the sledge but never played with one. People say it also sounds weird when you break.

Actually there’s not much sound at all, also is much quieter than phenolic.

Pat Diveney posts on this forum from time to time I think his user name is butterflycues. You should probably ask this question in the ask the cuemaker forum if you want an answer from him or other cuemakers.
