g10 pin with phenolic insert?

Hey guys, quick question for you. Is there a downside to having a g10 pin with a shaft that has a phenolic insert?

I've got a cue coming with a 3/8x10 g10 pin that I may (or may not) want to try with a 314-2. The stock 314-2's have a phenolic insert. Is this an issue?

Thanks,

Serge

You may need to take the shaft to a good Cuemaker because the minor axis of the thread might be to small on the shaft. The shaft has like a v thread and the new g-10 pin should have a larger minor axis and the threads will look farther apart because of the larger minor axis but it's still 3\8-10 thread. Old shaft needs to be slightly modified for new cue new shafts will fit old cue no problem a little sloppy when you thread them on.

You can try it you will notice the difference real fast.

If you go to www.cuestik.com and compare the pins you will see it real fast.

Ah so what you're saying is that a 3/8x10 g10 pin is always radial? That I didn't know.

Anyhow let me rephrase the question, assuming I have a shaft with the proper thread that matches whatever threads the g10 pin has, is there any reason I should avoid using a g10 pin with a phenolic insert? Do the two play well together?

G10 comes in different threads. 3/8 10, 11 or radial.

Phenolic insert should have no problems with G10 pins.

G-10 and phenolic

Hi: I usually use an ebony insert with G-10. Less wear and tear on the pin than phenolic.

Just asking,:) are you refering to material compatibility(??Spelling:confused: ) Like if the G-10 is to brittle and the Pheonolic is too hard? Or if the two can be fasten and tightened to hold during play?

G-10 Thread Surface Finish

When I look at the surface finish of my G-10 pin, the thread's faces are not smooth and polished.. Since Glass Epoxy is hard, It seens it's like it would "Sand" the internal threads each time we screw and unscrew the cue..
Try think about it.. Isn't that what's happening on a micrsocopic scale?? Maybe a harder Insert would be the way to go., Besides polishing the faces of the thread on the G-10 Pins..
