Ga Young Kim Wins wpba Nationals!

Vivian :( :( :(

So close to the winner's circle but a great tournament nonetheless and confidence heading into next year. :)

Congrats Ga Young. Sensational tournament! :)

I hope it was a good match.

Congrats to Ga Young, but I have to admit I'm a little disappointed. I would've loved to have seen Vivian pull the win out.

Wow! Between Mohegan Sun and the WPBA Nationals, GYK has now won $41,000 in just a week and a half. Annualized, that's an earnings rate of about $1,500,000! Not bad.

And since we're listing accomplishments, let's not forget that she was last year's US Open champion (runner up in '03) and the current REINING WORLD CHAMPION as well.

Again, courtesy of NoStroke the final score was 7-6.

They just posted a six next to Vivian's name on the WPBA's tournament chart.

I guess she lost 7-6 then? So close!!!!!!!! :( :( :(

Must have been a great final though. Keep your chin up Vivian. Proud of you! :)

Unfortunately neither player was in good stroke in the finals but nevertheless GYK got the job done, She probably played at 70% of her best game and ABOUT 50% of her potential. With a good coach, no one is gonna be in her league.

BTW_Allison was breaking so hard and well vs GYK in the semis- I dont know how GYK overcame that- Without alternate break Allison would have won easily. Allison was breaking just slightly under GYK's power. Check it out if u get the chance.

What, i'm lost here,

Last Thursday at Mohegan Sun, GYK won the winner-take-all $25,000 Women's challenge of champions. This Sunday, she won the $16,000 first prize at the WPBA Nationals. Hence she won $41,000 in ten days, or an average pf $4,100 a day. If she maintained the earnings rate of $4,100 a day for a full year, she'd earn 4,100 x 365, which comes to about $1,500,000. Hope that clears it up.

I believe strongly that of all the accomplishments in her career, this is the greatest. As of today, the top four in the rankings are, in order, 1) Fisher, 2) Corr, 3) Webb, and 4) GYK.

To beat all of the top three ranked players in snapping of the WPBA Nationals, at least to me, is the most inmpressive feat of GYK's young career. Her future looks bright indeed.

Congratulations to Ga Young Kim, Vivian Villarreal and Monica Webb.

Does any one happen to know, when was the last WPBA tournament that did not have Karen Corr or Allison Fisher in one of the top three spots?

Yes, very impressive display.

Looks like she's on her way to no.1 in the women's game.

Of course i am hoping you are right but remember this was the very first and only time she has beaten Allison. Not one set ever til Sunday.

Right now I am thinking more along the lines that #2 is a realistic target within one year. Karen seems to be without her top game as of late but Allison is another story. Plus i hear Allison does not even practice. If she hears footsteps she might just get serious and show us another gear.
I think GYK will need to start working with a good coach if she is ever to make a run at Allison.

SJM- Can you give us your unofficial points update for the top 4 or so?

I can tell you that Karen and Julie practice hard.GYK will have to work harder to overtake Karen or Allison. She must maintain her current level and get better to challenge for those two spots. She is capable, now she must rise to the challenge.

Her rise ...

She is, indeed, making an impressive rise in Women's Pool,
and is so young. Does she have a Pool nickname?

How about "Speed Demon"?

Congratulations to Ga Young Kim, I remember watching her play when she first came over here and could barely speak any words in english. There was a buzz going around about how well this young girl played and how she was going to be a world champion one day, well last year she went on to accomplish that and her play the last ten days has proved it wasn't no fluke.

Ah ha!!! WW predicted that she would become the next superstar, and you said (in a post to me) that she couldn' play safe, etc. and would never become top dog (she isn't there yet - not until Allison retires ;) )

Come on SMJ, tell it like it is!

WW

Hey, WW. Hope all's well. I'd be happy to be wrong on this one. GYK is a great player and a credit to her sport. I wish her well and, perhaps, she will become #1 after all.
