Gabriels - out of business?

Hi,
I have been trying to contact Gabriels about purchasing a pool table, I've tried email, phone, and their webform without success. Does anyone know if they are still in business?

Hmmm, maybe have to get a diamond afterall!

Gabriels is still in business! Diamond Billiard Products is the exclusive distributor in the USA. Contact Diamond Billiards at (812)288-7665 for pricing and delivery. Gabriels is in the process of relocating their factory in the Netherlands.

Thanks Paul,
I'm based in the UK and was considering driving over to Holland in Sept to pick a table after the Euro Tour! I noticed their factory was located on the hook of Holland which would have made it easy, do you know where they are relocating too? This probably explains why they are not responding to emails/phone!

Any ideas how much a sig pro costs new? Also how much would a Diamond Pro cost to ship to UK, I can see prices on Diamond site but no shipping info or international suppliers listed? I know the US Open sells them cheap afterwards and I think the Gabriels where being sold for around $3k after the 14.1 worlds, would prob have been cheaper to but one of them and ship than new in Holland! :(

You probably don't want to contact Diamond if you live in the UK. You should contact them directly at +31 (0) 118 680 006 or + 32 475 433075. BTW Diamond really doesn't know anything about these tables.

Make sure you get the Dianite rails otherwise they will get ball dings in them. I bought mine used for $3K. I wouldn't think they would be over $5K new.

I tried both those numbers, got a recorded message. How do you think the table compares to diamond pro, I know DCC, IPT, US Open use diamonds but the Gabriel table plays great and IMO looks heaps nicer. Although I loved the US Open diamond table that they used for the final but have no idea how much that cost. Thanks for the info about the rails, did you set up the table yourself, was it easy?

The signature pro is built better than a diamond. They have a steel frame which does not come apart (~50"X100"). They also have pockets which hold about 18 balls, so no need to move balls in straight or one pocket. The slates fit together perfectly as if it was one piece. On mine I didn't have to use any of the slate levelers once I got the frame level. If anyone is looking for a barbox I hear Gabriels is better than a Diamond too. I set mine up myself but I have set up other tables before. If you haven't set one up before I would suggest you have someone help you.

The only thing I don't know if I like is how the pockets play. They play relatively easy for the pocket size. Mine were originally 4 13/16", I had them shimmed to 4 1/4". You can hit the rail and it will still go in, where on other tables (Gold Crowns) it would most likely bobble out. I would suggest you get the smallest pocket size available.

That all sounds pretty good, pocket size is a worry I would hope to set it up as tight as possible, is this possible without having to use shims? I have some experience in assembling snooker and english pool tables but never an american table, sure I could figure it out with some help. I saw them setting them up in NJ and the beams and tables looked pretty cool. Would be nice to have a gabriels set up to play as hard as a diamond I think.

Gabriel couldn't sell their tables in the US because they copied Diamond's technology. So they made a deal where Diamond would sell the Gabriel tables in the US.

My friend got a Gabriel at Valley Forge for $2,000. He picked it up in his truck and drove it back to Frederick and is very very pleased with the table. Our tables were set up the same day by Diamond.

I will say that the tightest table Diamond could give me for my new table was 4 and 1/4" pockets, which were not shimmed. I am guessing that since the tables are so similar that this would hold true for the Gabriel - and guessing should be emphasized here.

Good luck, WW

Great info, 4 1/4 would be ideal without shimmed. It will be interesting to find out the price as it might be worth going to Valley Forge and get a free trip and a cheap table for the same price as ordering a new one from Holland!

Edit: removed because of innaccuracy.

If you order a new table you can tell them what size pockets you want.

Cheers, given that Gabriels have been around for the best part of a century and they seem to be unique in using a steel beam I'd be suprised if they copied the table. There maybe other similarotoes that I'm not familiar with but I'd be suprised esp since they seem to have a decent relationship now working together?

You could be right too. That's just what I've heard, just rumors. I don't see too many similarities in the two tables.

That is not what I heard from the Diamond guy who set up my table and who used to be a salesman. [...]

Other than the fact they're both really good tables, I don't think they're all that similar. I like Diamond tables a lot, but I wouldn't trade my Gabriels Sig Pro for one.

Gabriel did not copy Diamond. The reason for the lawsuit was because they called their barbox table the "Smart Table" the same name that Diamond uses.

I don't know where you get your 'hearsay' information, but you don't know what you're talking about. Gabriels was caught red-handed trying to copy Diamond's "smart table" technology, and the result was exactly as whitewolf described it. Another thing, Diamond certainly does know about Gabriel tables. Otherwise they would not be selling them exclusively here in the U.S.

Well I was half right, I knew it had something to do with the smart table. The Sig Pro is nothing like a Diamond. You probably know better than I do Scott.

The only reason why I say Diamond doesn't know anything about the tables is they told me that the frame came apart on my table. It doesn't unless you have an acetelyne torch. It was a b**** to get down the stairs.

Just to let anyone that is interested know that I spoke to Gabriels and they are still in business :D

Similar table to the ones used in the NJ 14.1 event are about 4000 euros (just over $5000) new.....tempting! :D

Hi sol, no problem appreciated. The price doesnt include VAT, and shipping too which will certainly add to the cost.

1 Signature Pro 9 foot, including dismountable steel frame, 30 mm slates, Dianite finished rails, pocketsize will be 116 mm,(additional shimes will be supplied to alter pocket cut if neccessary) Simonis 860 cloth and maritime grade packing is 4.115 € (euro) ex -works, ex VAT, Holland. (Same table as ones used in 14.1 worlds, price has increased slightly I need to query grrr ;))

- Transportation will be 475 €.
- Table can be ready for shipment within 4 weeks after receipt of your order confirmation.
- Your order can be confirmed by making a downpayment of 25 % of the total order value.

PS
They do have a website, the email didnt work for me but I did get to speak to them via phone and they where helpful.

TheHalfaCouple,
Urgent IPT-cloth update: I played last night on the "IPT table" at my friend's house (IPT member) - hadn't played on it for a couple of weeks (since my battle with sjm). My theory about the divots has proven correct. All of those slightly worn spots are now REALLY worn, you can see the backing fibers throught the spots, and the balls noticeably settle into these spots if they slow down anywhere near them. It looks "moth-eaten."

In my opinion the cloth needs replaced now - it can't have been on there more than a few months, with only average household use (by professional quality players - myself excluded). This is the crappiest cloth on which I've ever played; my 2 1/2 year old Simonis is in MUCH better condition than the several month old IPT cloth. Just a report, I have no axes to grind.
