David,
Can you list some of the hotels and motels in that less than $100 price range?

The condos you mentioned sound great for a week. It could be a family vacation although some of the parents of school age children may not be able to make the week long tournament and may have to opt for just visiting on the weekends.

Thanks,
JoeyA

If you think the Moody Gardens is just another four star hotel read the following:

428 luxurious guest rooms and over 100,000 square feet of state-of-the-art meeting and convention space, this world class Galveston hotel and conference facility is set among 242 acres of botanical beauty and accented by magnificent pyramids that contain a living rainforest, a Texas-sized aquarium and an I-MAX theater.

Sheesh! I'm going to have to come in a day early just to see all of the Moody Garden's sights.

Joey A: Everything seems to be falling in place for you, BUT, we need to see some serious promoting of this event by the organizers. They should start dropping names of the Pro's in attendance, and provide the payout structure as someone mentioned in this thread. We need directions to the venue from the airport (link not working at their website). They layout is huge and they are selling booths but seems some vendors have not committed yet (could the price be the object?).

While for some people 3 months to the tournament is still enough time, but I think it is time to have started straigtening things out, and getting all the information out including updating the website.

Undecided

I am definately planning on being there,But I haven't decided yet if I will donate to the purse.
I haven't seen anything on the website about spectator fees, and or passes for players,
as this info could help me decide.
I guess i need to get of my but and book a room.

A number of things are going to start coming together soon. I have heard that there will be a shuttle running from the Houston Airport to Moody Gardens. I didn't hear this directly from the promoters but I am pretty sure this will happen. Contact phone numbers will be sent out to get the shuttle. Moody Gardens might even be involved with that..

I know for sure, that Efren Reyes and his close friend Vicente(sp?) and Francisco Bustamante will be there. But you're right, more infor needs to be forthcoming.

This Wed-Thursday I may be getting some additional information that I may be able to share with the AZ Billiard Main Forum.

I am as excited an anxious as you are. You do know that the money for the pool tables (184 of them) is already in Greg Sullivan's hands, right?

Joey & Fellow AZers,

There WILL be shuttles running from both Houston International Airport and Hobby Airport.

Hobby is WAY closer to Galveston. If at all possible, fly into Hobby!! There will also be shuttles from the surrounding hotels.

ALL of this info IS on the website. Watch the interviews on the left of the web page.

I would have figured that most flights would already be coming into Hobby. Considering Bush Intercontinental doesn't Hub up with most airlines within the US.

From the Airport: Go south on I45 until you hit water, lol. But really, the directions are about that simple. Go south, go over a bridge, take the second exit, drive to the seawall, then take a right...You can't miss Moody Gardens or all of the signs directing you there.

I haven't been in Houston for 2 years, but I will be living there by the 20th of this month. YAY!! Finally going back home...Ironically there are too many sharks up here, lol.

Shannon Daulton

Just heard a few minutes ago that Shannon Daulton WILL DEFINITELY BE GOING to the Galveston Tournament.

Since Shannon and Marge post here on occasion maybe they will confirm this but my source is an accurate source.

Efren Reyes, Francisco Bustamante are definitely playing.

The rest of the champions will be putting their names and money on the dotted line.

I see that you can do an online registration for any or all of the events.

As soon as we get a pay out structure, I will sent my entry fee.

Man, $145.00 it will cost a pretty penny.
I wish I could go but with that hotel cost it will be very hard.

I am looking for more specific information on the women's events before I commit.

I couldn't help but chuckle when thinking about how its "ok" for the average "Joe Schmo" to question all kinds of things about a tournament but when a pro (Sarah) voices concerns/complaints about a tournament, she's told by some on here to shut up and be grateful. Hey, this tournament is another payday in pool, they're putting money in people's pockets, you guys should shut up, be grateful, and just go. Don't question it, just do it. If you don't like it, you can put an event on yourself.

This sounds like a great event at a fantastic venue. I hope that its wildly successful and will become a staple in the pool world like the DCC and BCAPL in Vegas.

what days are each tournament being held? .im actually interested what days the one pocket even will be held

Joey, you seem to have a lot of inside intel... do you know what time the 1pocket goes off on Friday?

And, is it true the 1pocket (as the other events), will run throughout the week, with the finals being played the last day?

Yes, that's right. Johnny just made that announcement over in the Chat Room BigTruck had set up. That was fun. I guess JohnnyA heard JoeyA was playing in the One Pocket at Galveston. :D

The professional players are signing on. I hope the amateurs get their entries in and the tournament is successful. It may be one of the most unique tournaments ever held.

I already took two weeks of vacation so I wouldn't miss anything. This is gonna be fun. Now I know how folks who live in Louisville, Valley Forge, Las Vegas, and Chesapeake feel.
