Galveston BIG MONEY TOURNAMENT

I play in a league but there is no rankings. How would they rank me ? I want to go to this tournament but it is a long trip to have a problem there. Joey thanks for your info, and I will be watching for more thanks, adam

My advice to you, although I am not an agent of the tournament in any way would be for you to contact them directly. Their contact information is available from their website at www.theworldclassic.com
I would probably obtain all of the members of my team and submit their names for their approval.

My personal advice to anyone who is interested in playing in this amateur tournament is for them to come clean as far as your level of play is concerned as any deception will be met with major headaches. This isn't meant toward you Adam, but just everyone in general because it is the promoters desire to have a fair event for all of the amateurs and only ONE MASTER PLAYER will be allowed on any team.

Any info on the hotel and condos included! I made my reservations a month ago so we would have a room before the rush hit. But would like to know if the hotel is included in the deal.

Ken Shuman

Ken Shuman is a fine fellow and a good tournament director though not as colorful as Scott Smith. For years he functioned as Scott's assistant director at a bunch of major events including Derby City.

Strong Professional Players will be there.

One of our local Filipino player is good friends with some of the best Filipino players and as he was leaving Las Vegas, they were telling him, "See you at Galveston". The names he dropped were Corteza, Bustamante, Reyes, Sambajon, Luat and Orcullo. Oh yeah and SUPERMAN, although he didn't call Roberto Gomez, Superman. :) That will be some tough hombres coming to play for the big cheese that is being offered.

I would like to hear what the American and European professional players are saying about going to the tournament www.theworldclassic.com

Schmitty, are you going?

I also was thinking about starting an AZ Billiards list as well. Anyone who has a team that qualifies under their guidelines should be making plans to go now.

Just got off the phone with one of the gentlemen in Galveston....good guy, we were on the phone for about 30 minutes.....he had answers to the vast majority, if not all, of the questions I had and those posted by everyone.....I get the impression he has a good head on his shoulders and has the help needed, both financially and tournament support/directors, to make this thing a big success....

There will be a big press release coming out VERY soon, answering these questions and more.....I look forward to that release and look forward to everyone getting the answers they need in the very near future....

Now I just gotta convince the wifey that we need to vacation in Galveston in September....would be nice if we could get a party caravan together for all of us headed south out of Dallas.....also, I hope he does answer everyones questions in full and we get a ton of folks from all over....would be great to see a few old friends again and make a ton of new ones...

Regardless of my best intentions to not look like an ass, looking back, it appears I gave some positive judgement far too soon.....while I thought it would be a week, it has been almost two months....still too many unanswered questions....coupled with recent posts, the deposit check arriving late, concerns around actual numbers, and now an inability to keep ones word with regard to an online chat, I feel a bit misled....

I'm pissed and I'm out on principal....take pics and have fun....

(not that anybody cares, I am just venting ;0)

I just called the hotel to make reservations for the last few days of the tournament. I'm going down there Friday through Sunday night. With the Group ID, I got a room at $149/night (not the $145/night listed), but I'm not quibbling over $4/night. The lady who took my reservation seemed to know the Group ID by heart (and the event name for that matter). She also said they'd been getting a lot of reservations for this event (which is great)!

Hopefully I hear back from The World Classic folks about purchasing seating for the finals. :p

:help: :help:

I haven't read this entire thread, so don't know if this has been addressed.

Does live streaming begin tomorrow? And where is the link? :scratchhead:

They have grandiose plans for this event with many questions unanswered. It appears that ALL prize money will come from player entry fees, much like a poker tournament. There is NO added money to build the purses, so the prize fund is dependent on player entries. The prize moneys may have to be scaled down if the field is light.

I met the gentleman behind this event at DCC and offered my help in planning it, but so far he has not contacted me about it. Perhaps the questions I asked him at that time (where will the money come from?) were not what he wanted to hear. I will always be skeptical of first time promoters until I see something concrete.

I wish them luck but they need to be a little more forthcoming with information. Too many questions unanswered still. In some ways this reminds me of Allen Hopkin's Million Dollar event last year. Great idea but hard to pull off. JMO as always.

I thought I was reading a post about the IPT......................

Sooo....they get the tables setup yet or are they still working on catching up?
I just heard a bit ago that they were hoping for a 6pm start instead of a 3pm start now, although it's still kind of iffy.....
Anyone down there that can update us?

Tables are all set up and playing well. Player's meeting at 4:00.

Everybody seems to be here except for the Europeans. :-(

Even Tony chohan and John Schmidt are here.

I got a chance to warm Bob Jewett up for the tournament and when he excused himself from the table all i COULD see was that secretive briefcase that everyone yearns to look inside. It was the opportunity of a lifetime as he never leaves the case unattended. I refuse to tell anyone what I saw.
Pooladdict is here with all of his Filipino friends. I even saw Easy Money Alcano and said hello.

Even Alex Pagulayan took a break from poker to be here. It's really amazing. I've seen so many old faces and new faces. It's incredible.

Stay tuned for the Live Stream.
