What???? Dumping a match? Surely that would NEVER happen with poolplayers!

I gambled on the friday night, last year i came out 200 ahead.

Where have you all been hiding? It is a very profitable venture at valley forge.
just stay away from the 3 card monte and some other high risk games or the hotel security will eject you and friends from the premises into a patrol car.

Scott Lee, gambling means you are betting on someone's skill or some chance event like picking a card. If someone is dumping a game to win money it is not gambling.
I would just like the opinion of some knowledgable people as to whether there is a lot of this or is it mostly a fair game we are betting on.

I am acquainted with MANY of the players who do frequent the action table at Valley Forge. Some of them, I know very well.

I did hear from other railbirds at the SBE, though, that it was their opinion that some of the action games were "fixed." In other words, the winner was determined by the amount of monies bet on the side. Hypothetically speaking, the contender who had the highest amount bet on him would be the ultimate winner.
Sitting on the sidelines, one can observe quite a bit. Having kept the players' list at this particular action table on multiple occasions, there is no question in my mind that the majority of the names that appeared on the list were shooting pool on the square.
If you enjoy side-betting on the action, my advice would be to observe and then choose your players wisely. IMHO, the majority of players who do frequent the action table are legitimately bringing their best game to the table. It can be a real three-ring circus at the action pit, but when you see a player running a 10-pack, holding the table for as long as he is able to, it may be advantageous to bet on his winning ways.

Whether you are kidding or not, you are actually close to correct, concerning the law. In most states, a bet between two players, on a game of skill, is legal. It is definitely a case of caveat emptor. Perhaps you are not aware that "fixing" a bet is called dumping, and unfortunately happens all too often in pool.

You can do very well betting on the side in the Pit....
The couple times I went down there I paid for the trip and still had a nice chunk left over like a Grand....
My theory was always know more players than the other guy having hung around the Joss that was never a problem....
Find the APA players who never get out of the bar room they tend to know less in term of players...
Be willing to woof and make noise to draw in the bets...Squeaky wheel gets the grease....
Be willing to go against the grain everyone wants the guy on a 5 pack take the breaker....Sooner or later MO has to shift.....Or if the Racker is a Big name player take the Breaker he's still got the break on a 7 footer
Start betting 20 a game if you get up on house money make bigger bets..

Ethnic Pride...I once bet a group of guys from a foreign country..Every time one of their countryman came up at the table they all bet and lost for like hours....brings a tear to my eye when I think of it....
Find out what motivates a bettor ...

Kiss, whats up! You hit it right on the head. If any of you had the oppotunity
to witness myself in the PIT along w/ my crew, we are the loudest and of
course the favorite. One year I broke my knuckle and did'nt even bring my
stick, and still brang home three dimes. There is nothing better then VF, but
the DCC. Last year had to be the best, I was w/ Sparky Ferral(road agent)
he was on fire. If you were there you know what I'm talkin, just ask Luc
Salvas. He did not like it to much, but its all in fun. Hope to see all of u guys

Gambling is illegal outside of casino's. Just FYI, (and something that I have made a mistake in the past) I would be very careful about talking about this on a public forum. Just be careful on what you say...
