gambling question

I'm not a gambler for the most part. I'll play the occasional small wager set, but that's about it.

A difference of opinion came up with some friends the other night about some gambling terminology.

Is there a difference between giving the 7 ball and giving the "wild" 7 ball?

Or does this all come down to what's negotiated before the set?

Yes, there is a difference.

If weight is going either way, it's usually specified beforehand....

If I'm "Giving the 7", it means if it falls no matter what, it's a win.

If it is the "Call 7", it has to be called prior to pocketing or it doesn't count.

Giving the 7 means that the 7, 8 or 9 win the game, right?

A friend told me he thought the "wild" 7 meant that you were giving him the 7 and that getting the 6 down won the game. I had never heard that before

Maybe not. If they say 7 and up, then yes. Make sure you fully understand. If 7 is wild then ask if 8 is wild also.

no
if the 7 is gone, you must pocket the 9 as normal
what you are describing is last 3

Thanks guys! That clears things up.

As usual, I didn't know as much as I thought I did... :D

terminolgy

giving someone the 7 "or whatever" if they make the 7 or the 9 ball they win. you can substitute 7 for whatever.
this is also considered "wild" meaning they dont have to call it. they MUST make the 7 ball to win, not the 6.

called 7 (or whatever) same thing, but they must call the ball they are being spotted.

7 out(or whatever ball you want to start with) they get the 7 8 9. sometimes you'll see a called 7 8 9, meaning they have to call the money ball to win. could be the 5 out......same thing.

5(or whatever) and last two. meaning they get the 7 and the LAST TWO balls on the table. one is the 9 ball, the other is the next lowest numbered, could be the 6 ball, could be the 8 ball, whichever lowest numbered is on the table.

thanks

Actually the last three is whatever last three balls are on the table. (No set money balls.) Can be any two balls and the 9.

What he is describing is getting the 7 (where you have one money ball, the 7, not the 6) versus the 7, 8, 9 (where you have three money balls: 7, 8, and 9).

When pocketing a called money ball, the pocket, of course, must be called.
When pocketing wild money balls, it can go anywhere.
There are also different variants where the money ball(s) can be wild on the break versus during the game where you have to call it, or pocketing a money ball on the break doesn't count as a win, et cetera.

i thought the 7 out was the 7,8,9 and the 5 out was the 5,6,7,8,9 as VAPOOLPLAYER described...maybe we just call it that in my area since im als in VA? whatever it is that's a lot of WEIGHT!

If in doubt...

If you have any doubts, or even a slight gray area, state exactly what
wins for you.

That means if I make the 7 or the 9, I will win, and the 7 on the break counts as a win for me .... agreed

sometimes a player, and beware of out-of-towners, will run a play on words when stating spots, and then try to recant later on...

Heavy spot type games are pretty exciting to watch to see if the player
giving up such a spot can maintain dominance with the game.
for example, when James Waldon gave a friend of mine the 6-7-8-9 and
the break for $10,000 a set, and my friend plays good. Okay ... Okay ...
they have played twice, and James is still up a set.

Are the 5 out and 7 out common in your area? What are the names of the poolhalls you goto again?

Ok biglip, you got a game. To recap, you're giving me and VAP the 5-out. Now I'd suggest that you play ME FIRST. I'm easy action, so you'll have a nice big bankroll by the time you play VAP. I'm just asking that you pay for time and give us some gas money after you're done with us. Thanks so much in advance!

You should understand that I am busted almost on a daily basis, so it's almost a financial necessity to ask for gas money in advance (if I'm even lucky enough to still have a car after finishing the session). I am willing to pay the time when I lose. We should play as soon as possible...fortunately I'm located in VA too, so I don't think that will be a problem!
