Gambling remorse ?

I Didn't Want To Pick His Bones Like A Vulture

Well ,
I came out pretty far ahead on someone the other night. Played pretty well and had a good night. Well , the guy looks like he's about to cry when we're done. I see him on the phone with 'someone' (wife?) obviously doing serious explaining , then over to the ATM with like 2-3 different cards pulling out as much as he can , then 20 mins of scouriong pockets and his car for the rest.

I felt pretty bad and gave him a $100 back just to make sure he could get home.

That's the same experience that I had when I beat Short Bus Russ. I gave him a walking stick too.
Doug
( apparently, it stopped him from slashing his wrists......................... dammit ! ) :)

So am I softy ? Did I get played ?

I just felt bad for him. He was quite distrought , I must have lost my killer instinc over the years. :(

If you feel good about what you did - didn't loose any sleep over it etc then you did the right thing.

i think you did the right thing on alot of different levels

when you do something like that, it makes you feel good, and really thats all the reward you need, even if the guy did play you, you dont know and your intentions were good

karma, you send out good it comes back to you

lastly, you can shear a sheep many times, but only skin him once

Depends

what type of person you are playing. If it is a 'player', they have many sources to get more money. If it is some poor working stiff in over his head, yeah, be nice and give him a walking stick, he will remember it.

I don't play for money because I have a hard time taking money from someone. Especially when they can't afford it.

What I don't understand is a lot of players that I know always brag about how much money they won but they are always broke. I don't gamble on pool and I am always the one with money in my pocket. Something doesn't add up.

Yeah , right. :D

Well I feel better now , thanks.

I'm not a big gambler either nor do I consider any of it 'income'.

It all started out with us playing a few sets , he looks pretty sharp but seems a tad off. Then he goes into how he just doesn't have the same focus if it's not a Tourny or there is a little something at stake to make it interesting.

So I figure , ok , here it is. The big set up. :) But I'm playing pretty strong so I figure no matter how much better he get's , it shouldn' be to bad. We start out slow but I take him a few early. He get's hot like a rack at a time and then falls off again so I'm taking say , 3 to his 1. Now he wants to up the bet.

I'm like ok , now THIS must be the big set up and agree since I now have plenty of wiggle room. He doesn't get much better , in fact as I stretch it out I'm getting even more relaxed and closing out any table he leaves me. His hole is getting deep and he looks panicked. I figure at that point he must be over his head already. I ask him how far he wants to go and I won't be upset if he's had enough , really. It's no big deal. He wants to go a few more racks so give him some time to fight back but I think we are just where we are at and I'm not giving up any more weight as I'm already giving him all the breaks and he has ran out a rack here and there. Plus , he's not asking for more anyway.

Eventually , I give him a time I have to go. He agrees and we run till then.

He goes down pretty hard. The C I give him back was a drop in the bucket , I almost gave hime more but he was very greatfull to get that. So we even up , shake and off he goes.

You know what? When I read the whole story I don't think you should have given him a dime. He was trying to take you and wasn't good enough, he deserved what he got.
