Well just go to the Roundabout on Franklin St. in E'ville and he'll be their(most nites). He is a super nice guy. He takes his lumps and wins just the same, smooth.
Actually there was a better player around in the 70's called Bobby Legs. The guy was 1 of the best bar box players i'd ever seen at the time. He lives in the Carolina's now but used to live in Princeton, In.

I grew up in Princeton, just down the street from Bobby Legg. When I was a kid, I used to watch him play every day at Crickett's poolroom. He had a table in his living room, and I remember once watching him play some guy from out of town. All I remember is people standing around with handfuls of hundreds. It was the first time I ever remember seeing one. I think he lives in New England somewhere now. I believe he's playing on the tour.

No, I'm not sure which Percy you're talking about. Percy Gooch? Was is the Jukebox Inn? Bobby actually owned a bar in town for a while- The Littletrack Lounge. The Davis family owned Crickett's for many, many years. And there was also the Palace Poolroom.

There are a lot of good stories about Bobby. I heard about him losing once to a kid who played barefoot. But Bobby was a hell of a player. Used to watch him play one handed and beat very good players. His wife came into Crickett's one day and broke his stick over a parking meter. If you find any info about him, please PM me. reading about all these guys and places sure brings back memories,,i sweated some action downt fwb,dothan and mobile,even played alittle snooker in p-cola.I have played or bet on j.king AND his girlfriend at the time,and was there in dothan when he took about 80 large off a guy one weekend.he was driving an old classic chevy and went down the road and bought a caddy.guy who ran the pool room in p-cola named chuck was a good golf player on 6x12,and i played some with doug james and brimcat (mosly 9 ball )at bakers in mobile.had fun down there,my memory is just kicking in gear.

Bobby is playin with a Verl Horn these days. He told me wished he'd never gotten rid of the Gina. I thought he said he traded it to Joe Salazar at the Derby several years ago. We were talkin tonite and he swears Jimmy spiked his drink once. Said he liked to have never gotten home.

I was around when Jimmy won all of that money. Hell he was giving it away. That was a bad-ass chevy he had, it was bright yellow and would haul ass. He was a highroller when he had it.

I do not know about that, but I took care of him several times when we were out partying all night. Bobby was hilarious when he started on them budweisers, I would not bet on him when he was drinking but he was a blast. Does he still partake in the occasional alcoholic beverage? If so, tell him I got the first round next time we see each other. Will you ask him does he plan on going back down South. I will be going back at xmas. It would be great to see him.

Well it appeared that this night we had some riders ,,,,Jerry Bento, New York Blackie and a guy we called Cecil. They all played a little pool so you know they wanted to bet on sumthing. At the track I played my dumb numbers system, but tonight I was collecting pretty good.
I heard a guy a couple of rows back say "hey how about sharing them numbers" in a joking manner. He was a bar table player from P-cola. We all started talking and they guy wanted to play Jerry and win some money back that he had lost to him in the past.
After the dog track we went to a two bar table beer bar and they matched up. Jerry took a while to get the bet right and took him off. All the time there were better players watching, but he had the action.
Oh yeah, thanks Mr. Hall for being there on the side.I doubt anyone knew who you were clean shaven. I owe you a couple of beers.

I think I know you Bill. I used to live in Ft. Walton back in the early 90's. Do (did)you have long red hair? Do (did) you take about 14 cues in the pool room everytime you go into the pool room?

Interesting story, Billfishhead. The Painter and I lived in Jackson, MS and took our vacations in FWB in 74 and 75. In 76 we both took our families and moved there. It didn't take Painter long to find a stakehorse, Bill "Cash" Moore. The Painter beat another shortstop out of 3 or 4 hundred and "Cash" fell in love with him. You know how he could talk. The love affair lasted one session. Next time out Painter loses 1K for him to Skip Coleburger and "Cash" cut the Painter loose.

The Great White Painter, Billy Ray Woodham and I have shared many miles of just trying to find a game.

Dothan Alabama a few years back. Tournament at Herman and Anns. It was packed and painter had talked me into driving. Im worn out and no place to sit. Tournament going on, so no action at that time except on matches.
About then Shelby Miller (at that time) came over and started a conversation. Id met her through Jimmy King . She wanted to play, but it was too crowded. I take off down to Pockets with her . Its almost empty with only one guy playing on the 9 ft tables. We walk over to the bar by the big tables. He asks me to play and I tell him Im too tired.
Shelby and I get into a fake argument
Hes hitting balls around and Shelby looks over and asks him to play.Stunned he accepts. As I sit there sipping a drink she drills him outta what he had.

We leave and she asks me where to get something to eat in town. Seeing as I was new to town Id noticed a steak and seafood place on the way. I mention it and we go have dinner on her winnings.

We get back to Herman and Anns and it was cleared out a bit. Painter spots me and asks were have i been.

My reply was,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,just stepped out for a bite.

I have played Painter a couple times and we pitched quarters a couple times as well. Painter was always good for a laugh or two if you sweated his matches.
