Games other than pool in pool halls

There's a group of hilarious old guys that play Hearts at one of my locals. If there's ever a group playing cribbage or 500 i would gladly jump in, but haven't seen it.
Otherwise just darts and foosball.

The exception being the Memorial Union at NDSU. We had tables, 8 lanes, shuffleboard, ping pong, foosball, and a Wii.
If only we could have convinced the University to have taps down there...

Almost……pinball is #1 😅😉😃

Having said that, I never really played much pinball at the pool room, a few pool rooms would have a machine or 2. Usually not the best games.

Darts were big in Sacramento in the late 80’s until sometime in the 90’s. I moved to Vegas then and don’t recall seeing a dart board in a pool room there.

We used to play 21, dice, pitching quarters to the spot or wall at the pool room.

Fun times
Used to gamble with Richie Rich when he would come through Indy playing 8 ball Deluxe. Guy could play some pinball.

Are there any other games that are popular in the pool halls you guys frequent? I recently bought a set of darts just to have something to do in between tournament matches. I am having fun throwing darts as a little break during practice sessions. I've played one game of gin in a pool hall before. Does anyone play backgammon or chess in pool halls? It would be nice to get some side games going during weekly tournaments
Darts and any board games are fine, but Ping pong, foosball, air hockey and pinball all make way too much noise to be together in any serious pool room, so they need to be in separate rooms, especially ping pong which needs its own private room.

Watch out for this guy

What kind of darts and how big of shuffleboard, 10 x 22ft boards would be crazy huge.
steel tip darts with 10 bristle dartboards.

yes, 22 ft boards. there is an annual (10 day) tournament with players from all over the US... several other countries too.

steeltips are REAL darts. those plastic tip darts SUCK. Bullshooters in Phoenix is real big into darts.

Here in Wisconsin (southern Wisconsin, at least) video slots are pretty popular. As I understand it they are not exactly legal, but they fit into some sort of gray area in the law created when the Indian casinos began opening off reservations. Rather than try to enforce a ban the local district attorney's offices "regulate" them by limiting them to 5 per establishment.

They're not just penny ante action, either. Many, many times I've watched people win hundreds or thousands in relatively short sessions (or lose similar amounts). The wife of one of my teammates is absolutely addicted to them. Last summer I watched her win $3000 in about 2 hours, then give it all back plus about $600 of her own money over the next hour or so.

They are by far the most profitable thing in most of the bars and pool halls around here. I've talked with owners of smaller bars that say if it weren't for the gambling machines they would have closed several years ago.

Stocker, in 10 years you can get into West Point playing it. It all comes down to video game reflexes.

This is Ames mister

Wonder how many Pool Room like Ames still are around in USA. My guess not many, know both North Hollywood Billiard in North Hollywood, CA, and Baker in Burbank, CA (East Side of San Fernando Valley) are both long gone. They were both Ames type places, Pool Only.

The small town poolrooms (where I grew up/all closed now) that let kids in, had pin ball machines (including the one once owned by Ralph Greenleaf’s father…go figure). The one that banned kids (best equipment & players), only had a card room in back. No poker though, only goofy hearts/cribbage/etc. games I didn’t understand, so I never played cards with the old men if there was a pool game to be had.

I remember talking to PT years ago about Backgammon being played in his room in Canada.
