Gandy Big G

IMO in standard form they tend to be canyon pockets but if you are considering the table as a used purchase and the price is really right, say 8 or 9 hundred, the pockets could be shimmed and there are plenty of worse choices you could make also.

Nothing wrong with a Gandy Big G in good condition. You can contact American Heirloom in Atlanta with any questions about Gandy tables.

It's been my experience that all the Gandy Big "G"s and hustler tables have all had low rail rubber height, not to mention particle board side skirts, and cheap rail rubber. The ball return system was cheap as hell, and the ball box fell apart. I'm not even going to get into the rest of what I never liked about these tables.

And your point is?

My point is, if you want to feel like you really pocketed a ball, you don't want canyon pockets. There's nothing wrong with the table as a home table but in my years of playing, the first thing that comes to mind is the pockets on Big Gs are huge. So, the point is, that if you don't care you don't care. Hey for that matter sears has some nice fold up tables too. Depends on where your individual line is drawn for being fussy.

My particular line is drawn at having fun playing pool with friends with no care if the pockets are a bit tight or loose or whether the table is a Big G, Kasson, Brunswick, Olhausen, etc. I'm sure others are more fussy or have some need for particular specs.

I completely understand. My observation, and mention of it was merely in an effort to share what I've seen is the case with these tables.

Lots of players like to compete in local tourneys and leagues. I think also, that for folks like this who want a home table to practice on, not only are tight pockets helpful in improving your game during competition, but are conversely detrimental in that they tend to make you lax and sloppy.

At any rate in the end its all what ya like and want. Good luck.
