gauging intrest for an upcoming art project of mine...

i've been doing various types of art for most of my life, from fish paintings, car drawings, canvas and spray paint, and recently leather tooling.

the other night i was out playing a weekly tournement and i was in my zone, i was playing perfect. One time as i walked to the table it was almost as if i could see every line and pattern for the run-out. soon after i saw lines and paths for every rack and i was shooting lights out. that night i realized what a great idea (in my opinion anyway) to turn this into a series of artworks.

the basic idea for this series is that in the center of the canvas there will be a pool table from overhead view, 9 balls + cue ball spread out, and various dotted and solid lines overlapping each other eventually concluding in the 9 ball being pocketed. it will almost be like a Qtable layout but with 10 different shots put all onto the same page overlapping each other. my objective is this, to any non-pool player it will look like total chaos, but my goal is that to the true billiards enthusiast, it will make complete sense.

i want to create something that pool freaks can hang up in thier pool room and enjoy, something new and unique rather than the same ol color of money posters, or the dogs playing pool poster, or the hustler posters, that gets old, i want to make somthing that can stand out. i've put a lot of thought behind the meaning of this project, I'm planning on calling the series "In My Mind" or "In my Zone" and it will be a series of anywhere from 10-20 canvases and starting around 100-140$ a peice.

sorry for the long read... and let me know if any of you guys would be interested in somthing like this.

im thinking if i can get at least 10 people intrested or make a deposit, i will continue with the project

This is a great idea. Maybe you could take some of the "impossible outs" the pros have done then put them on canvas. All you gotta do is look at a couple of corey dueuls outs on youtube. You could put the players name on the picture. "Thoughts of a pro" or something like that.

Neat idea and after a few paintings with lines consider a painting or two without the lines. This would also appeal to pool players. Leave the lines out. Set the balls on the table in such a way that a pool player would be attracted to it. The position from the one ball to the two ball would be obvious. This would attract the player's attention. The position to the three would be a little less obvious, etc.

The expectation is that the "player" would stand in front of the art work and connect the dots while the non-player woud say, "What are you looking at?" This would be an interesting way to get players to appreciate art and to discuss it with non-players.

There could be a whole series of such pictures. The flip side of the painting or an included drawing could contain the solution. There is a beauty in the pattern of balls on the table that only a player can appreciate.

In one or two painting there could be a few balls on the table with non-obvious or multiple solutions that could stir controversey. Something like Efren Reyes famous "Z shot."

The inclusion of fancy cues, different types of cue balls in some but not all paintings would have players looking for, "What did he include this time?"

Ever notice that nearly everyone likes to tell the player how the table should have been played.

You must have some good #hit to smoke.j/k I think it's a cool idea. I hope you paint them, some NY gallery picks them up and has a show of them. Who knows they might get the attention of a few rich people that start a national pool league. Good luck with the paintings and please show us pictures of the first one you paint here at AZ. You need people to pre pay for your art before you will do it? It doesn't sound like you are very inspired.

pre-pay isnt REQUIRED but it helps with a couple things,

1) times are tough and i could use help with supplies
2) people can pre-pay and specify certain details they might want in thier own particular painting ie. cloth color, tv ball colors/traditional color balls

3) i need to know people are going to want my painting before i go and make 20 and have no one be intrested, i wouldve wasted a lot of time and money

I honestly think you will have a better chance of selling paintings without the chaotic lines and go with the idea of letting the viewer discuss and debate while trying to figure out the best route.

You could have the solution with all the lines done on the back in a simple sketch.

To get people to prepay you need to do one and post it up on here.

Oh yeah on the drawing on the back you should have a key that shows shots one thru nine numbered with little cue balls with a dot on each one showing the English used for each shot.

My two cents.

The following isn't intended to be rude. As someone who doesn't know you or your capabilities, I'm just giving my honest advice:

As you mentioned, times are tight, and people aren't in a position these days to pay for something they can't see. Besides, most of us have never seen any of your work before, so how do we know you even have any talent? Your idea is just that...an idea. It's nothing more until it's been realized on canvas.

So my suggestion is this: go make it happen. If you're a good painter than you should already have the supplies on hand. Paint the first one and then post it to see how people respond. Let them see what they'd be getting for their money. If they go crazy over it and start offering money for originals, then paint the other 19. If not, then you've lost yourself only a handful of hours of your time.

As they say, "nothing ventured, nothing gained".

that is the plan, im not expecting anyone to PM me until i do a "sample" per say. i hope no one was thinking that. i am just throwing out the idea, and ive gotten some good input in the past couple of posts. and that was the goal of this particular thread

here is some of the things ive done in the past year
