GC I/II frame wood type?

Hey all,

I'm refinishing a GC II that I purchased via these forums and unfortunately the 2 short piece of frame wood that are at either end of the center support are missing.

They are 3-1/2"x1-1/4" and just under 24" long.
I'm building replacements but I can't seem to find anything that specifies the type of wood that the flames are made from.

Anybody know for sure what type of wood was used for the early GC frames?

I'm also missing 3 of the aluminum apron mounts but I'm hoping that I can get away with 3 on each side (instead of 4) and 2 on the ens (instead of 3)

Have you tried contacting Brunswick or posting this in the "ask a mechanic" subforum.

All I know is the wood on my GC II is fairly dark.

I sure that any solid piece of hardwood lumber will do just fine but that is my opinion.

I believe the frame is made from Poplar wood with a mahogany color stain.
You could post this same question in the Talk To A Mechanic forum section.
