George Breedlove, what did he mean by this?

George Breedlove was also on tenterhooks after winning his double-hill match against Sammy Jones. “Anybody that wants to come to Indiana and work with me for thirty days and do everything I do—they can bet fifty thousand at the end of thirty days...”

Has anybody got a clue what mister Breedlove meant when he said this?

My guess is he is referring to the responsibilities he has which doesn't leave as much time to practice/play pool as people without the responsibilities.

George owns his own furniture/ carpentry business. I would guess that he's challenging anyone to fade his lifestyle and resposibilities for 30 days, then play some. My guess would be that he doesn't get much practice time.

It is just his frustration showing.

I am sure that he would not care to come down to Florida and be a roofer when it is 95° out. Or any tradesman here working for $15-$17 an hour in the hot sun. they work from sun up to sun down.

Or for that matter be a cop or fireman in Chicago when it is below zero outside. And have to deal with the idiots. Or carry a dead child out of a house.

Or an iron worker.

Or, well you get the idea.

Instead of being thankful that was able to compete he is complaining. I doubt he will get any sympathy from anyone. Look in a dictionary.

Jake

I have my own problems which I am sure he would not like to have.

Playing pool at the top level takes much more time for some than others.
Just look at the final six, I doubt they have done anything other than play pool. I doubt any have spent time on a hot roof or any other type of manual labor for quite a while.
George made different decisions and works very hard. If he were to devote all his time to pool, where might he be today.
Most would agree that George is a special talent and I'm guessing his frustration comes from not being able to be at two places at the same time. As they say, there are regrets in all decisions.

Thanks for sharing your opinions, it's kind of what I thought. Still don't get what he means about betting the Fifty thousand, but ok.

What I find most disapointing is that some of these guys who get there one chance in a lifetime, don't commit themself fully to the opportunity given. I mean I heard some players complain about the cloth and how surprised they were at it's slow running speed,.. hey, you could have installed it on your own table months ago and practised on it. (Like I heard Nick van den Berg did back in Amsterdam) Maybe George Breedlove should haven taken a sabbaticall for a couple of months and committed himself complety to this opportunity?

Pat Holtz

Had a Diamond table shipped from the USA to Scotland with the IPT cloth months before the tournament, so he could practice for the IPT tournament.

you can't expect someone to shut down his business, his only mean of income, to play pool. it's not a good gamble.

Actually, I believe Breedlove made a smart choice to be his own boss, in his own business. Up until THIS year, the money to be made, as a professional poolplayer has been slim pickings...with the exception of perhaps the top two or three players in the world (okay maybe 6 tops). One exception is some exhibition players, like myself, Tom Rossman , and Mike Massey, who frequently make six figure incomes every year. The IPT, as wonderful and hopeful as it appears, is only guaranteed to last 3 years. Certainly we all hope it goes on forever, and gets better and better. However, the reality is that MOST people can make a much better, and more stable living, doing a different job...whether working in your own business, or for someone else. Right up until Hohmann won this first major tournament a couple of years ago, where he won $50K, he was despondant, and ready to throw in the towel...in other words, tired of being broke. George works hard, and makes a nice living. I applaud him for making the "right" decision, FOR HIM.
