I did know that at the ITP Earl was going off at the mouth about playing a woman but I didnt know he went off the deep end and offinded Gerda? I read on her web site that the night b 4 the match he was sharking her in some way. What ever he did was enough for her to say she used to respect the man but now has no respect for him. QUESTION ..... WHAT DID HE DO TO HER???

That match-up and her coming out with the win was just great. I was in the audience for a while. I couldn't take no more of his criticizm-and Im sure Gerda couldnt either-->cuz she used her G-Force to pull out the W. When I returned to the center I ran into her and she was saying that he had made some comments the night before, even to the point about her losing her players card. Man can Earl speak his mind. Hint to Earl: think it, but dont say it out loud.
Way to go Gerda....

its under G.I.P. section on her web page

I've been an Earl Strickland fan for a long time, but it seems he will never stop acting like an ___ ____! The man has so much talent it's a shame he can't control his emotions and play the game with class like for example Efren Reyes. Efren never says a word to intimidate his opponents he just does his talking with his cue and he does a good job of doing that! I've met and played pool with Gerda and she's a very nice person and I can't understand why Earl would try to upset and intimidate her.

im a fan of earls play but thats about it.......evidently the man has to get fired up in some way to get his best game out (or try to) and unfortunately it usually involves abusing someone in some way. Personally if i was good enough to be in the tour and had earl woofing at me id be smiling and egging him on, knowing that the more upset he gets the better the chances are it will end up affecting his game instead of mine. It sure didnt help him against gerda lol.....you go gurl

I heard he shared a generalization- that women should not be/ had no business competing w/ the men.

ANyone wanna bet their cheeze on Gerda if they play every day for a year?

you are right, he did make the comment on women having no right to play among men.
i'll take Gerda against Earl anyday of the week, doubt she could stand 365 days of his abusive comments

I was there during the entire match in Orlando. In fact, I was sitting directly behind Earl's chair. During the match, he was talking alot, but he wasn't saying too much to her I don't think. However, I do remember him commenting to me that he thought everyone seemed to catch a gear when they play him and he didn't understand why. Gerda smiled at him and said, "It's because we all want to beat you more." Priceless.:p

When it became clear that Gerda had a real chance to win the hill-hill game, the majority of the crowd was clearly rooting for her not him. After the match, he was being interviewed by the cameras around the table and he made the comment for the cameras that he thought that the women were better than the men at 8-ball. I remember this distinctly.

I'm kind of conflicted. On the one hand, I look at Earl as an ignorant hick who just rattles off at the mouth and has no respect for other people. In that respect, he is enormously infantile.

On the other hand, there is a part of me that thinks the he very well may have a severe chemical imblance and perhaps a variety of other neurological disorders over which he has no control. In that case, he may not be able to censor himself. He may not even realize what it is he's doing.

But he definitely acts like an a** sometimes! That's for sure!

for what it's worth i don't think Earl is a partiularly nasty person and really means a lot of what he says. however as illustrated in this case, that can be irrelevant - damage is still done by upsetting and offending Gerda, and tbh he got his comeuppance by losing in the end!

sometimes i just can't understand him tbh. Gerda comes across as a nice person who wouldn't say boo to anybody, not to mention she is pretty and cute, i wonder why he felt the need to start this one?

I think he's just a little kid who got extremely good at pool but never grew up. I think the only feelings he thinks about are his own, and the only times his ego stops clouding his vision of the world are when he's asleep.

As many have stated in positive anecdotes about him, it doesn't make him a bad person. Just a person who never learned how to account for the feelings of others, and a person who never learned to see that the way he perceives things is extremely biased in his favor. He never plays below his ability --- his opponents just always catch a gear. He's never dislikeable --- the people of London are just ignorant and rude. He never lets his focus slip --- someone in the audience just moved at the wrong time. He's never a poor sport --- his opponents are just thin-skinned. And he never blows it --- the odds are just stacked against him in 10,000 ways.

That's my impression of him. I don't think he's consciously self-absorbed; I think he really just never figured out how to see how the things he does are going to affect others' feelings.

And murderers and rapists who have never figured out how the things they do are going to affect others' feelings aren't bad people either...

Not without some kind of medication, I don't know about everyone else but I'm not surprised one bit about Earl's comments about women and the IPT. Perhaps Gerda defeating him at the KOTH changed his view and he will have a little more respect in the future, sometimes Earl pulls this crap to make for good TV but seeing how they weren't even in the heat of battle when he made the comments shows that he just has no respect.

KOTH Story

Im sitting next to TroyFrank during Gerda vs. Earl @ KOTH-, I turn to Troy and say whats up with this guy? He said, oh thats the usual Earl. I told him about this article I read on him ranting and raving and that one of his comments was about a guy sitting in the audience with a bag of potatoe chips. Troy tells me-thats Earl for you, looking for someone to blame. Then Troy tells me about him beating Earl at US Open and Earl stating he just got lucky and they should play a real game like 8-ball. So when Troy shows up at IPT, Earl sees him in audience after winning a match and says i love this game, it is so easy. Although that story had me laughing, paybacks are a b!tch. K!ck A$$-Troy. Good shooting to all that play Earl.

You must have been sitting next to me on my right. Earl never made a ball on the break. I don't think he really likes 8-ball. He kept saying, "this game is too easy." One thing for sure about Earl, he sure does not care about being Politically Correct. He is from the old school, he says what he thinks and damn the consequences. People now-a-days are too soft skinned and get oooofffffffended if you use the wrong inflection in your voice let alone what you say.

I believe a lot of it is showmanship

Every sport needs a person you love to hate. Name 5 players that you would pay to watch play and Earl would be one of them.

It doesn't get any better than Earl against Keith. Two characters that put on a good match and a great show. I don't think the WWF could script/choreograph a match any better than these two guys do naturally.

Yeah, the World Wildlife Federation is really running out of creative steam, everything they come up with these days seems stale and predictable. Sure are good at identifying birds and small woodland mammals, though:D

(just good-natured kidding, I know you meant the wrestling organization formerly known as WWF, now known as WWE since they were successfully sued by the world wildlife federation, who apparently had the name first)

all sports have...

...that one guy...

tennis - John Macenro(sp?)
poker - Phil Helmuth
pool - EARL STRICTLAND

while i never agree with his attitude or display, he is part of the game... there is always that ONE GUY... and it happens all over the world... except he is just in the spotlight all the time... i happen to play a woman this year at valley forge who would not SHUT HER mouth during the entire match, at the end of the match she goes to shake my hand and I congratulated her on the win and gave her advice to act that way through every match and she will win the whole tournament garaunteed! She had no class and no poise, and everyone saw that, she made a complete A$$ of herself... but thats part of the game... i don't agree with it nor do I practice it, and it does suck when you are on the receiving end of it, but I garauntee that since Gerta managed to win the match, she knows exactly how to deal with this in the future from Earl and it only made her a better player,... so who really won there? She won the match and had to deal with his belligerant behavior and will only play better because of it... personally i think he did her a favor...
