Don't feel so bad---I ordered a cue from Gus over 20 years ago after he made one for my good friend Joe Kerr. Gus took my order but said it would be a while after talking to Joe about it. I guess I will never see it, but just knowing Gus took my order makes me proud.

...He'll build a cue for you is if he likes you & thinks he'd enjoy building the cue, for you. He reads the forum & likely will know something about your character before giving you a definitive answer...

No wonder he gets so little work done then, if he has to wade through all the crap we post here before he can accept an order from someone. Maybe he ought to setup some kind of reciprocal information sharing agreement with Santa to save time?

Then again I guess proof positive that Santa don't really exist is his continual inability to train elves to make Szamboti cues.

If you want on his list, then be honest & square with him. He doesn't need your money. He'll build a cue for you is if he likes you & thinks he'd enjoy building the cue, for you. He reads the forum & likely will know something about your character before giving you a definitive answer.

My take on it is that I build what I want to build, for whom I want to build, when I want to build. Nobody decides it but me.

There is actually a lot of cue makers like that whether you know it or not :) I will never have a Szam, not because of money, but just the simple fact it is not worth the effort "for me" to get one :p But have talked to Searing a few times and I like his "can make anything" passion, he said "I will do it" to a cue most told me they could not do, or wanted to change some things to make it "doable". And I did not have to go WAY outta my way to get a hold of him...

I seriously doubt he reads too much on forums, though he does indeed read this one. But you can be sure if he's gonna squeeze somebody in then he's gonna know a little about them. It would be silly of him not to. And who says Santa isn't real? Bullhocky:mad:

i have only hit with one cue in my life that i said wow it was this cue.

I can change that. ;) Come to think of it you played with my cue.

Jason<----traded his Barry for a Haley & cash<-----STUPID:eek:
I still have pics that I visit once in a while:mad:

I have owned 2 Szambodis The old mans of course. I have hit Barrys cues a few times. They are not the best hitting cue that I ever hit. Not even close. Mottey or Scruggs ,there is the great cues!

I wanted one of Barry's cues for a while, but couldn't find what I was looking for. I knew I had NO cance of getting a new one made. :frown:

I finally gave up & bought another of his Dad's cues instead. Which may have worked out better for me since I use it to play with on a regular basis.

Well it is just sit, wait and hope you get that famous email or pm one day from Barry to let you know it is your time to order one, or else buy one on the aftermarket seems like the only option.

Although i still like the "Szamboti Search" idea :grin-square:

Sorry, you're not going to be able to get a cue from Barry because Ken Kerner is talking to him every day and always over at his place. Ken Kerner is the reason a lot of people are not getting cues from Barry....

True,
We definitely talk to much on the phone.. But, I cut back my visits..
This should enable eveyone to get their cues now
Best,
Ken Kerner

Well if you want to keep the cue and never sell it for a profit, let Barry know that through your actions. Perhaps ask him to carve your name on it somewhere on the butt, or sign it with "To FSutton", etc. Those usually decrease the value of a custom cue in the collector's market. Somehow personalize it in a way that would make no one else want it for collecting purposes.

I seriously doubt having the words "To FSutton" signed on one of Barry's cues would diminish it by ANY measurable amount. As a matter of fact, I don't think it would have much bearing on it at all IMHO. We've all seen cues by his father, and GB sell for many thousands with complete strangers names written or carved into the cues. Not to mention the ones owned and played with by legends in the game...

Well, I was lucky enough to receive the infamous PM from Barry - and a few phone calls. Barry is a super nice-funny guy. Of course, I was fortunate enough to get on his list years ago (VERY fortunate). If it makes you feel any better FSutton, I'm a military guy as well.

Barry has enough orders to basically last him a lifetime, from what I understand. I'm very lucky that he is going to make me one, and it will definitely be neat to have a cue made for my from Barry. That is a special thing.

That being said, you can't go wrong buying one on the used marketplace. After all, it will have still been made by a Szamboti.

I don't want it to collect or to go out and resale. I want it to play with. In all honesty I don't even care about fancy or inlays. ....

okay guys.... flame on...

f:frown:

If you really want a Barry, and your post was sincere...dude, just buy one off the secondary market. You say that you basically aren't picky about the design, then why obsess over getting on his list (unless you want to flip the cue). If you take the time to shop around, I'm sure you can find a used one for not much more than one directly from Szamboti.
