I've already put down half on a Diamond Pro/Am table with matching Diamond light. I am currently getting a quote on a set of matching spectator chairs.
I am in contact with a structural design firm who are going to help me with a way to remove and close off my garage door, and I am going to renovate my garage with the help of a general contractor.
I am paying my stepdaughter $300.00 to clean out the garage, wall to wall, in preparation for the GC to come in and do what he has to do as far as levelling out the uneven concrete floor. I'd do it myself, but my arms ain't that long! (Check my location..)
I know people on here are interested in seeing home billiard rooms in progress, so I will get the family to send me pictures as progress is made. I'll keep you guys as updated as I can, from where I am.
My 8 year old son is already crazy about pool, and just as competitive as me, but has up till now had nowhere to play. I foresee him being a very strong player by his teens.
The plan right now is for me to work in Iraq to save up enough for the conversion, the table, a fence around the yard, and a few other things, and we are planning on saving enough for a year or two's worth of income. I plan on taking "me time" for a year to improve my game as much as I can, and then going back to work.
I am not bragging here about my potential, but I foresee myself becoming at the very minimum a really strong shortstop. I had a very very good break back when I was playing steady. My breaking style was similar to Bustamente's, with extremely fast follw thru. I was capable of squatting the cue ball pretty well too. Not saying I had the speed that Busta did, just that the mechanics of my break were similar.
I am already planning my off time around exercise in the morning, to get more healthy, eating more healthy to help with weight, and practice time. Family time allotted to keep familial health, as well. All in all, planning on 6-8 hours of practice per day. Leaning towards 8.
Planning on starting a league team with my wife in order to include her in this new development in my life. She's always known I was a player, and has seen me play extremely well before we got married, but she never got "hooked" on the game. Maybe having a table at home will help.
I am planning on attending the Derby City Classic at least twice before I head back to work. I may schedule my coming abck from Iraq to give me at least 6 months of practice before my first attendance.
Wish me luck, everyone. I am not planning on going pro. I just want to be the best I can be. My wife will tell you I have an ego the size of a house. For that reason, it eats me up inside that certain players in the area consider me fresh meat. I have always wanted to be the guy instilling fear in my opponents. I like to see the crestfallen look on opponent's faces when they see they drew me in a tournament. That sense of pride has NEVER left me, even when I went years without practice.
I'm putting it out there, so everyone can hold me to what I say.
Later,
Russ
