Getting ready to maybe break tradition ...

SIMONIS-X1

Is this device really worth the money or is it just BS hype? Kinda pricey so looking for some input.

Yeah, it's pricey and overpriced. I base that on the fact that I can only guess it costs less than $10 to produce.

I've had one for almost exactly one year. It's very well made, and so far has worn like iron.

The major benefit is that it's twice as good and twice as fast as a manual brushing. For me, it's also way faster than dragging out my canister vacuum.

I now shoot c. 10 racks/day, and use it maybe every 2 to 3 days. With the canister vacuum, I probably let it go for at least one week or more due to setup time, dragging the cord around, etc.

The true test, of course, is how much chalk will be apparent after a cloth replacement. I don't doubt my vacuum most likely got rid of perhaps a bit more residue, but the X-1 is doing a great job and certainly is convenient.

Whichever I used on the bed, I always used a high quality microfiber cloth for the cushions and beneath the cushions. Probably ten seconds/cushion and easier than a crevice tool.

As for the X1, I gently swish it in wide arcs or tiny circles depending on where I'm at on the table. It's so easy that I don't do the final "dressing" of the nap from head to foot. I have noticed no improvement or degradation of ball roll in doing so.

It's also quite good at the rack area. I just shoot straight and always roll the balls into position, but knuckling the rack will eventually leave ball position marks. So far in the first year for both my new cloth and the tool, it's done a good job of removing these marks and very, very light, sort of semi burn marks. Actually, more aptly put, it "fluffs up" the weave in trouble areas.

So it's a luxury item of sorts. It's also so easy to use, that I thought it was a good investment, and a year later I still maintain that opinion.

I can't remember where i saw it.. maybe the table maint section. There's a post about the proper way to clean simonis. X-1 is ok, but a regular vacuuming will do a good job.

I have one....it does the job for quick clean-ups....
....but a vacuum cleaner is the best.

..and, Nine...corner, if you do change to blue...I got your theme song...

I have a X-1 as well and like it but you still need to vacuum the table as well. What kind of vacuum brush do you guys like to use? I need one for my table.

My canister vacuum will suck paint off a wall, so to reduce its suction and to prevent any slate joint deterioration, I use this. Just don't use a tool directly on the cloth; allow the bristles to be long enough to prevent any mishaps.

Excellent advice....and use a crevice tool for under the rails.

I too used the crevice tool for getting under the cushions when I used a vacuum. With the X1, I've found it's extremely easy to just use a separate, quality microfiber cloth folded in quarters, over the top of the cushions, and also underneath the cushions. The microfiber easily conforms to the tight area where the cushion and bed meet and totally removes chalk, lint, yada yada. I use a dry microfiber to do this...

Have you seen money recently?...

Seriously though, I think it depends a lot on your room. I had a beautiful well-lit pool room in my old house, and chose a perfectly matching spruce cloth. Now that that table is in a basement, the cloth is way too dark. I may go with tournament blue on my next recover.

Thank You Kindly.

Thank you all for the responses to my questions and the encouragement to spend more money! I'm going with the Simonis 860 in Tournament Blue and going to buy a
Simonis X-1.

To me tables are Brunswick and felt is green - that's the way it should be.

If my table was a Diamond, I would use blue cloth, if I had a furniture table it would be light brown or a red - anything but green or blue - does that make sense?

I am currently having tournament blue simonis 860 installed on my gold crown, but if i had to go with green, i would try and find the electric green color they are using on the Chinese 8 ball tables. I don't know who makes the cloth they are using but i don't think Simonis makes 860 in this color, their green is a bit darker and duller.

This color is awesome!

I have always had green cloth on my home tables over the years. I've stated the reason green is the only color acceptable is because it is the "Color of Money" ;) I'm getting ready to have new rubber and cloth put on and I'm starting to think BLUE. I'm not sure which way to go and I'm wondering, although I think I know, what the AZB community thinks but tell me. Thanks in advance ...

Tournament blue is the best.
Your lights work better also because it does not suck all away like green does.

I have one. It works to get up the chalk but doesn't pick up anything else.

I also use a vacuum. I also sometimes use a canister type with the rotating brush. It is the same as brushing the table.

I found that a micro fiber cloth folded a few time works as well as the Simonis X-One. Try the cloths and vacuum before buying one.

i also have Chalk Off and Quick Clean. I think the Chalk off was given to me. A total waste of money, both will stain the cloth and neither do a very good job.

Ya know, I also noticed the X1 doesn't pick up the occasional hair or sawdust specks. I have exposed wood above in my unfinished basement. I happened to have some of the putty like material that kids use to hang posters on their walls. I kneaded a strip into a flat shape c. the size of a quarter. I do the X1 in one hand, and have the putty in the other. It maybe picks up a half dozen errant specks over the entire table. Don't think it costs over two bucks in the kiddie section of your grocery store. I keep it in the X1 box, and it is still as elastic as when new one year ago. Just a thought before dragging out the electric vac.

I went with olive green, just a little prettier than regular green. Get what you like... but for god's sake man, don't put anything with a red tint on your table. Red/wine/maroon

Just trust me on this one, you'll thank me later. Plus, the red chalk is just horrible on your cues.

I went with Tournament Blue and got an X1. After three weeks, the X1 seems to work very well, I use it probably once every 30 racks or so, usually when I start getting blue stains on the heal of my bridge hand. It picks up all the chalk very well and seems to pick up other lint and debris pretty well, too. I was told by the install guys from Diamond that they recommend NO brushes, just microfiber towel and vacuum once a week or so with heavy play.

Finally getting my 2x4 LED light installed and wired tomorrow, will let everyone know how well it works. Currently I'm shooting with a 150watt LED bulb in the overhead socket, I'd shoot with indirect ambient sunlight and be happy! :)

OK ... I think I'm ready to move to Simonis 860 Tournament Blue from I don't even know green, lol. I've cleaned my table many ways over the years but was never really too concerned about the cloth. Any recommendations now that I'm getting the good stuff?

I have a few suggestions to keep the beauty of your cloth lasting for many years.

- Make sure the room has good light blocking window coverings

- Keep the table covered when not in use.

- Be sure your hands are clean and dry before playing, especially after eating. Grease shows up pretty well on this cloth.

I have electric blue, which is similar to tournament but a bit darker. It stains very easily. Since I started using a table cover, the color has retained its depth. I bought it to protect the cloth from cats, but there have been instances where food, drink, cats or cleaning fluids may have spilled onto the table but the cover saved it.

I bought this cover on Amazon - it's heavy duty, looks good, and is otherwise perfect for my use:
