Getting shape do you have to shoot hard to get it

I haven’t read the other replies but amateurs think they have to hit hard to move the cue ball because they “ slap” at the cue ball instead of hitting thru the cue ball
Ie they don’t have a stroke yet
Also they haven’t learned to let the spin do the work for distance

Nuther reason for banging - besides the xtreem factor is the natural "stabilization" of forces when the stick gets going; inertial alignment or whatever. Errant side has less effect, and at least pocketing improves to a "satisfying" degree. Fact of the matter is, and correct, they gots no stroke, they cannot explore the range of speed.

Hello ,

I am trying to pass on the knowledge of the game, very little I know lol in Pool to my 3 Son’s. They are all becoming decent players and shots so to speak. But they seem to believe that they have to shoot hard in order to get shape on the next shot. I tell them
It is in the wrist and English is what helps you move to your next spot. They believe that shooting harder will get them to it but they often mis the shot by shooting to hard or overshooting the cue ball. What is your best method for getting shape on the next shot. I try to play at least 2-4 balls ahead. Thanks for any input

I try to leave angles that will allow me to move the cue ball around the table without having to use a lot of spin.

I like to hit the ball firm, so I prefer shallow angles if the table layout will allow that. This allows me to not have to turn the cue ball loose a lot, unless I need to.

I can 'rev' the cue ball if I have to do that.

Keeping the cue flat, and using true high action tip placement will do wonders. Very predictable and effective. You must know where you are actually striking through the ball. Speed kills.
