Did anybody catch this?
Look...:
Last night on the stream I think Max said Rodney beat the 15 ball ghost 11-9, how strong is that!?! Both him and Jay said they had never heard of anyone beating the rotation ghost. ..Thanks,
Stan

They said Rodney at first, but soon corrected to mean Ronnie (Alcano).
But yes...no matter who it is, that is strong.

How does such a fact get buried in a thread and not celebrated with its own?

Were there cameras rolling?

They mentioned Dennis as well has been beating the 15 ball ghost.

I would like to see players match up alternating attempts against the ghost. It would make for interesting tournament formats as well. If you have a set number of innings, you can compare all players at once and move them up in rounds by taking the top x percentage of players. The specific number of qualifiers would not even matter since there are no brackets to deal with.

You could adjust the ghost to the level of competition. The top pros could play 12 or 15 with local tournaments maybe 6, 8 or 9. It could be a fun game for all skill levels and easy on the TD.

I'm not sure I can fathom how awesome a feat that is!

Stronger than goat's breath in an acre of garlic?

Not sure there was any pressure on Rodney when it's claimed he did so.

(BTW, apparently there IS a BB arena! Good to catch a glimpse in this short clip.)

Niiiiiiiice!!!!!

Man that's old news, we have been arguing about it for a week in the Aiming Wars Section. The discussion has morphed from Rodney's accomplishment to snooker pros and back again. It has brought you links to not one but TWO long documentaries about snooker that are a must watch for anyone who likes pocket billiards games.

:-)

Just to confirm, I was there and witnesses this feat (Rodney lives with me, so there isn't much that he does that I don't get stuck seeing lol). It was outright disgusting. Some of the outs included jump-kicks, combos, caroms, etc. Balls were clustering all over, and it was impressive to watch.

Best part is, even when the ghost did beat him in other sets, it was tight. Rodney usually gets to 8 or 9 before facing defeat.

Once the studio gets finished up (yes, it will be done soon lol), I'm going to get my camera crew to film a full set of Rodney beating the 15-ball ghost, at full production quality.

I'd probably have to buy that. That's ridiculous.
It's amazing anywhere, but just curious what table and pocket size he'll be working with.

How much did Rodney pay you to back this Paul Bunyan-esque baloney? ;)

I await your video proof of future Casper assassination on these 6 inch buckets. ;) ;)

KK9 <-- was very impressed with Rodney's game at Swanee, seems he's putting more dedication to it lately

There is proof....

I know your kidding but.... to make things clear Rodney is playing on a Brunswick Gold Crown 5 with standard 4.5 inch pockets the same table as in this video http://youtu.be/qLicir0fxm0

Also we did shoot a single camera video of him beating the 13 ball ghost 10 ahead unfortunately it is in 1080p and the file is like 6GB so I'm not sure when we will get it uploaded. Maybe if we have some time we can add a graphic overlay to it with the score to follow along.... although not the 15 ball ghost it is still pretty impressive.

Also just to clarify when he beats the ghost he re-spots any early game balls. 13/15 has to be made last.

Strong !! !!!!!

This is just an awesome feat! Quick question, am I wrong to assume that he was taking ball in hand after the break shot?

Side note, 15 ball would be a great, great game for the pro level...

Apparently, Stan Shuffet told a buddy of mine (brandoncook26) that SVB beat the 15 ball ghost 21-19 four or so years ago.

This makes me wonder why pros are playing anything that involves short rack. Hmmmmmmmmm?????????

More balls = more clusters, and more traffic. The percentages aren't right to play aggressive a lot of the time, which means the pacing slows right down. Most runs outs require consecutive hail-marry's that just aren't realistic when playing anything other than the ghost. Anyone short of a diehard pool nut wouldn't be able to watch it.

Everything you say is true enough. Some arguing that slowing the pace down and requiring more strategic play at the beginning of 9 ball for instance, would be a better and more marketable version of the game. I think I recall CJ advocating for a change of 9 ball rules to achieve that effect. I'm not sure that I agree with that, but 15 ball just seems to be the logical progression to what pool diehards at least are clammoring for. They want long races, tight pockets, etc etc. Seems like 15 ball would fit right into their pool world view.

I guess now that I think about it, I'm just surprised that 15 ball hasn't been discussed more. I suppose that perhaps many in the pool world, myself included (if you can even consider me as part of the pool world he he he) have been somewhat conditioned throughout the years to think of 9 ball and now 10 ball when we think cue sports.

As an aside, that legacy game mentality is the primary major challenge that Bonus Ball needs to overcome in order to succeed. Then again, I guess the BB target market is the wide world of sporting enthusiasts, not pool diehards. But, as usual, I digress.

In any event, I enjoy your productions and wish you and your crew success with Bonus Ball. And thanks for trying to capture Rodney on film taming the 15 ball beast. Man, that's just awesome!

Cheers,

JL

Oh yeah, yet one more aside. I remember how jazzed I was a couple of months ago when I beat the 9 ball ghost for the first time on my Diamond Pro table (score was 10 - 7, yippee). It felt good. Now, I feel humbled to learn that I need to advance 6 more balls. Perhaps in the next lifetime I'll get there ha ha ha ha.
