ginacue- better to buy new or used?

Hi,
I am planning to purchase a ginacue but not too sure how the value of the cue holds?

Reading the posts on this board informed me that the model i prefer is around 8k (pls see: http://www.pccues.com/ProductDetails.aspx?productID=502 ). I might be able to get the whole amount in 1yr but just worrying that it does not hold it's value and it is better to just buy a used one instead.:confused: Thank you for your help.:)

if there's ONE cuemaker who's cues hold their value, and even increases,,,,it's ernie gutierrez.
 
The cue you have linked is one of my favorite designs by Gina.
I really love the ebony, ivory, silver and the small amount of coloring in the points.
Awesome choice!

Ernie's cues do hold their value very well and play exceptionally well.

Thanks for all the reply. Sorry for my ignorance as I have no idea how the market is like for ginacues. Is there any specific website that sells them or is it better just to go directly to Ernie?

I will be using this as a playing cue and I hope that I will like the hit or I will end up selling it. Would it be ok to ask ernie to make an extra predator shaft for it?

Ernie Gutierrez is in the upper eschelon of elite cuemakers. He is one of the few who has made a career out of innovative, unique designs. His cues are absolutely breathtaking and, they play extremely well. As someone said earlier, there are few cuemakers whose cues hold their value. Earnie is one of the extremely rare few whose cues appreciate in value.

Bu tthis doesn't really answer your question. You want to known if its better to buy a Gina new or used. A question like that, however, is too difficult to answer. If money is not an issue, buy new. Always, buy new!!!
But Ginas are pricey and thus, money very well may be a factor. If so, find one in good condition and buy that way. It will still hold its value over time (provided you don't play it into the ground).

Bottom line is you won't go wrong either way!

Thank you pharoah. I was considering waiting in ebay or browsing around websites if it will save me a grand or so. The problem is, pls correct me if I am wrong, that the value of a used one is about the same as a new one (at least the ones that I saw posted). Thanks again for the help.

I think the answer is yes. I would recommend getting a Gina.

Excellent workmanship. Plays great.

And I understand that Ernie isnt in the best of condition, so they may not be available for long.

Like stocks, I give it Strong Buy.

here's my only deal with ernie. you don't get to alter the cue much, what he makes is what you get. so if you're looking at a cue, it's one he's done many times over for many collectors. i would go to him directly, try to see how amenable he is to you giving input to different materials, and see if you can come up with something that at least is partially your own PERSONNAL cue. at the price you're paying, imo you deserve some bit of input.

can you elaborate on this statement, Ken_4fun?

Do not buy an expensive cue on ebay. Too many scammers out there.
I would start with an email and followup with a phone call. And get an idea of how long its going to take. You might be surprised, on the good side.:)

At this time I would buy a new cue from Ernie. He is a very easy and pleasant person to work with. I don't know how busy he is but he always had time to answer my questions. By buying new you will get it exactly the way you want it. When I bought my cue from him he said he would make it any way that I wanted it, and then laughed saying any design is possible for the money.

The only problem I have with the cue is that it is so perfect, flawless and beautiful that I have not chalked it up to use. I have hit some balls without chalking the tip but have not taken it out of the house. I got it 3 months ago and will pull it out of the case and hit a few center ball shots and then put it away. When I got it Ernie even said he wanted me to play with it and not store it away as he makes his cues to be played with.

Buy a new one. You will not regret it.

Thank you. Your post has convinced me to buy new. I have spoken to my wife and she said that it is ok to get the cue. I hope that this will be my "IT" cue...the final cue, or the cue that I will be using forever. Thanks again and I will update you all with my progress.
 
Ernie /Ginacue

I see Ernie almost everyday at the pool hall where I work there is absolutely nothing wrong with theman..He is in excellent shape and still plays a pretty decent game of nineball..so dont go starting no rumors about the mans health,thats bad karma..unless you were just joking to get the man to buy a cue....:D

Any pool player knows that this will not be the IT cue. :rolleyes:
We are constantly looking for the next one.
I am up to 9 and thinking about the next three (at least) as I type...
But a Gina cue - may have to get one and see if it will help with my case of CBD (Cue Buying Disorder)! :D
