ok, so i started to shoot pool in 2004 ... and i picked up this Gina from Ernie's workshop in 2005 ...

At that time, i really sucked at this game ( not that i am championship material now ! ) ... so i potted a bit and figured it's a cue .. not much different from others i had tried ... and then i put it away ....

since then, i have bought quite a few cues and my game's been coming along ...

so last week i decided to take out the Gina ... been on this forum for a while now and i know Ernie's reputation is easily top 5 ...

Man oh Man !!

To say i was impressed would easily be the understatement of the decade ... this cue can do it all and will such ease and precision, i almost felt like i was cheating !!

it is so poised, so balanced, so powerful and intuitive - it just knows what to do ... i play with absolutely no fear ... i know the cue will get the job done ...

this is truly an amazing piece of engineering ...

all hail the master !

I have test shoot with about 4 Gina's and they are very consistent, easy to get along with and shoots almost the same from cue to cue. It's about time you make it as your player. ;)

Look who's happy with this baby? :D

and of course... the owner himself.

Simply beautiful and an engineering marvel. I've played one since the 60's and it still feels like I'm just along for the ride. I seem to play my best when I just stay out of its way. :grin-square:

I love mine...you are right - they are some of the easiest playing cues there is. the cueball does what you think its supposed to do.

I am a huge fan of Ernie G's. I don't think anyone has contributed any moe to the art of cuemaking than him.

You don't know how to answer? I'm just doing the math and wondering. If you just started playing pool in 2004 and then took up an interest in cues how the heck have you got two Barry's in that 5 year window? I just want to know your secret method because I called him in 99-00 when I was a kid and he said " no orders" and I called him in 05 , "no orders" and once again last year....the same "no orders" come on kam :grin-square: tell me how you do it? Did you just happen to call him and catch him in a good mood?

or maybe you just *****edited for sensitivity reasons*****

or maybe you just offered the right price

first, barry and i were friends before he ever thought of making me a cue

second, i don't appreciate ( and neither does barry ) the comment about "the right price" ... barry can't be bought - anyone who knows him will have realised instantly how upset that comment must have made him ... his integrity is beyond reproach ...

there are many who can afford to buy every single cue he makes, but he doesn't work that way...

if anything, i think he is one of the most generous people i have ever met ...

of course, everyone would like a cue from him .. that is a given... how he chooses his ultimate clients, that is completely up to him and i don't think he needs to explain himself to us ...

he is the bearer of a legacy .. how he chooses to extend that legacy is a matter of personal choice ...

and we must respect that choice...

Kam,

Excuse me for wondering or even questioning how you managed to get one of the most desirable cues. Integrity has nothing to do with what i'm talking about. I know of some cuemakers that if you offer them more money to make a big cue your more likely to get it. Money talks just a fact of the world and I wouldn't blame a soul for taking more money it is a business there's nothing unethical about that. After all people have families. Take it however you want but I already told you I didn't mean any offense I was simply wondering how someone who had been playing for such a short time managed to get his hands on not one but two szams. I asked but you didn't care to share any insight outside of "we are friends". Fine you don't have to explain or justify I was merely wondering I didn't know I was touching upon a secret or something sensitive SORRY. Anything I threw out there was mere speculations and not insinuations but I could see how the comments could be misconstrued. I merely wondered what you had done to make it happen. But now I could care less after reflection I don't even want one. So I'm sorry if you (and barry) took anything i said wrong.

Seems to me what you really don't appreciate me putting you on the spot about how you got two cues from this guy so quickly when there have been guys who have been playing for years that would just kill/love to get a cue from him but can't even get on his list. So please don't try to misconstrue my comments to make out like I"m saying something negative about this cuemaker, cause it just seems like the subject was veered off course from "how did you get those cues so quick?" to "barry's integrity blah blah blah blah" which never even crossed my mind.

Obviously whatever is between you and the cuemaker is his choice and is absolutely their right. As I've said till I'm blue in the face I was just wondering how you had initially appealed to him to make you these cues and so fast too. But you obviously don't want to get into that and now I don't care anymore cause I'm just turned off by the whole thing.

f

I would like to add I know several guitarmakers who do that same thing.

how dare you! he can't be bought. Integrity is unwavering!

I have a feeling somewhere someone had hurt feelings when reading your post that insinuated that they could be bought

Back to the subject of the thread; I guess this is just a case of 'cash is king'; 'money talks'; 'money can't buy happiness.... but it can get your name to the front of a list' (or something like that).

Sad too... One of the things I admire most about John Davis when I spoke to him. He did not care if you were the pope. Customer Satisfaction to 1 and all ;-) at a gentlemanly price :thumbup2: Not to say I am broke btw lol...

Which brings up a little story. People are all the time raving about a Tasc, or Szam, or this or that etc.... ladedadeda... Which I have played, owned whatever... But anyways, I got cash in hand, talk on the phone (ok mail off your request I will call for deposits you will need to send) mail off simpler designs to people like Tasc never to get a response back. If you don't like the design, call and say it, simple?? Which is ok, I can take my money elsewhere, plenty awesome cue makers, even a few collectors don't take serious, YET... But I mean come on, seriously, you think Bushka or Gus treated people like that? If they are ANYTHING like the generation Davis was in, and his way of doing business, absolutely NOT. SO how are these cue makers so GREAT? They did not hit any better than My Scruggs sneaky pete did. So your awesome cue maker treated you GREAT, I guess he did when you dished out what you did lol... And btw this ain't directed at no one here in particular or Ginacue for that matter..... Those it is directed to can sulk..........

If only more were like that. Sad to say, that doesnt seem so anymore.

Then again, in this economy, I wouldn't really blame anybody for going where the money is. But I also wouldn't blame others for having a problem with the guy who takes the short cut.
