There is a well known Pro player at the room I shoot at who is looking for what he calls a "glass melanine"(sp?melamine?) ferrule. Is there such a thing? If so where or who is it available from? 1st time I have ever heard of such a thing but then again I am not a cue maker nor a repairman.

I think Porper has or had them Gerald. Check his website. Martin

Glass melamine or G5 ferrules are sold by Atlas.
They come in rods as well.
Somehow the new melamine ferrules from Atlas do not look like the old one. They are no longer opaque. They look like the old writing board chalk.
Glass melamine ferrules are very hard and noisy for my taste.

I was afraid of that. The last time I bought Melamine from Atlas, which was 2 or 3 years ago, I thought they sent me their Ivorine 11 or 111 by mistake. It is much softer and more porous and doesn't shine and resist chalk like the Melamine I'd been buying for years. Since then I've been getting it elsewhere but now that supply has dried up. I've only got 5 or 6 feet left and need to order more and was talking to Bob Griffen and he told me that the stuff he got not long ago from Atlas was the same stuff that I thought they had sent me by mistake. WHERE"S THE MELAMINE? Anybody know who is peddleing the real Melamine like the old stuff?

Is this one? I thought it was g-10, but I was never actually told that.

glass melamine

Joey-

You are confusing two different materials. The melamine that Atlas carries is a linen melamine. The G-5 & G-9 are glass melamines. So, the difference is in the binding fiber, not the resin. You may try calling them to inquire about purchasing white G-5 or G-9. If your local player doesn't care about appearance, G-10 makes an awesome playing ferrule that hits like the old glass melamine ferrules. The biggest difference is in the mass (G-10 is slightly heavier) although they use different resins.

Thnx.
I dunno why Atlas would just one day not offer the Melamine that was well-known then sub it with a different one.
I heard MCB's are gone as well.
I know a local maker who has a great supply of the old glass melamine.

They can only get what is being made. Porper got frustrated with his manufacturer and quit having his made. He went to a soft plastic ferrule. Atlas is having a hard time getting any made now also. The main manufacturer sold out and the new guys just can't produce the quality. I have a few rods of Melamine I am cutting into ferrules. When it is gone I don't know what I will do either.
