I Have A Friend Who Just Got Glasses And His Having A Problem Seeing Balls That Are Down Table. The Rim Of His Glasses Are In The Way Of Seeing The Ball. Figured Others May Have Had This Problem. Is There A Company Out There That Could Help.

One (expensive) way is to ask your optician for special Billiard glasses - like Dennis Taylor has.
The glasses go further up your had and the focus is also further up compensating your line of sight bending down over the table.

Normally it shouldn't be a problem. Even in my league (veeery low level) I met a player with sth like that. He paid 150€.

Much much cheapter is a construction called "Spoony" here in Germany.
It's a construction you put on your nose where the frame then rests on.

This little thingy puts your every day glasses further up and is available for around 20€

I wear glasses while playing. No special style...just larger rims than my normal glasses. My regular glasses are bifocal; my pool glasses are single vision.

Pool Glasses

You might try contacting Howard Vickory from Ohio. He sells a brand for pool players. Another contact who might be able to help is Randy Goettlicher with the Academy of Billiards 800-707-0158. Hope this helps

What do you mean by 'single vision'?

According to this very interesting article about Howard Vickery, he is a representative of Pro Billiard Eyewear. They seem to look a little better than Dennis Taylor's specs. LOL

I tried to get a phone # for you, but didn't have any luck.

Got mine here. Best money I ever spent.

As someone mentioned earlier the SPOONY. I have recently started using one with my regular glasses. One of the best investments I have made. A little overpriced for what you actually get BUT cheaper than buying new glasses.

what about contacts. i just started wearing them solely for playing pool and i love them. i never noticed how big the cue balls were before. lol

Single vision lens are the same in all areas of the lens; as opposed to bifocal lens that are stronger on the bottom and usually have a line in them.

To get the most out of pool glasses, eyes should be checked for what is called a FOCAL point. My glasses were prescribed for a 2-4 foot focal point and that works best for me. But the focal point will be different for different people. Any player needing glass for pool should explain to an Ophthalmologist that they want glasses for pool, and he will ask you the size of table and etc..etc., and will take it from there.

I wonder if Linda Carter could find out where Dan Louie got his glasses. His normal eyewear is nice, small and professional looking but his actual play glasses look like coke bottles. Large block style thick glasses. They work very well.
