I'm relatively new to any kinda of pool outside playing with friends... definitely new to reading anything about it. I keep running into terms which are meaningless to me, I can usually get a glance into it from the context and google, but sometimes that's just not good enough... so here's a thread for me to ask my questions and hopefully others to tack on to... for starters:

Orange crush - obviously a significant spot in nine ball, but what is it precisely?
 
Orange crush is the 5 & the snap.
Buy the book "Play Your Best Pool" by Phil Cappelle...it has a glossary that'll cover everything for you...and help your game.;)
 
Short and Sweet... if you don't gamble, don't worry about it... if you do...

Spot/Weight - a way to benefit a lesser player against a better player
Stakes/Nuggets/Beans - the $$$ bet
Post/on the light - to wager $$$
Sweat - to watch a match
the nuts - a game one player can't lose
Games on the wire - one player will play to less games than another (i.e. 10-7 is 3 on the wire)
1p - One pocket, if you don't know don't ask.
10-7 playing 1p - Better player must make 10 balls before lesser makes 7
Wild # - If the lesser player makes # ball or the 9 they win
Call # - If the lesser player calls pocket and makes # ball or the 9 not called they win
# and out - Same as above but also includes successive balls (i.e. 6 out means making the 6,7,8, or 9 is a win at any time)
Money odds - betting a certain amount to win a different amount (bet $50 to win $100)

More unusual:
5 to 1 pockets in 1p - Lesser player may make balls in 5 pockets, better player has only 1. (Can be any # to 1)

Oddly enough, I knew every term except 10-7 and nuggets in iba7467 post... but I still don't get this concept of numbered balls in 9 ball.

Does that mean when I'm shooting and get to the 5 I get to pocket it and shoot the 6?
 
A ball spot in 9 ball means you win if you legally pocket the spot ball or the 9 ball.

If you are getting the 5 ball, you can run 1-5 (5 being your money ball and win) or if the 5 has been pocketed you can still win with the 9.

All type of variations of spot can be given from here, such as wild 5 (you do not have to call the 5 ball), in rotation or turn (You cannot make a 1-5 combo and win).
