glue for phenolic tip

Hello again: I know I have asked this question before but I am still not getting the phenolic tip to stay on I have used loctite, gorilla glue, 2 part epoxy and it still pops off. I have no problems with regular tips just this phenolic tip. I am thinking of putting a stem onto the tip and drill a hole in the shaft to help hold the tip on. Any suggestions.

What type of ferrule? Do you face the end of the shaft on a lathe? If not do you sand the end? Do you sand the back of the tip?
Lowes Loc-tite All plastics. Use the activator on the ferrule side and tip side let sit for about 2 min then apply glue. Do not over press the tip. just enough pressure to keep the tip in place until the glue dries.
 
Yes everything is flat. It might be that I overpress the tip onto the shaft in the lathe. Do you have any suggestions as to putting some type of pin to screw into the tip and then into the shaft? Should I put any type of groove into the tip to hold the glue? I'm going crazy trying to get this tip to stick. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks John I will give this a try and see what happens. Anyone else with any suggestions please reply as I am desperate with this tip.

have you roughed up the ferrule and the bottom of the tip.use a tip pik and score each surface.i use loctite super glue as i believe its better than the gel.
attatch tip....apply pressure....then
after you've fitted the tip drop shaft with tip toward floor(about 3 inch is sufficient)to remove any air bubbles.

A tip pik will not penetrate the phenolic tip I don't think because of its hardness but I will give it a try. Thanks

Loctite Professional from Lowes seems to hold phenolic tips as good as any fast glue can.
 
i use this and i can barely cut them off. cvs walmart home depot

I had a White Diamond tip I put on with Super Glue come off the first time it hit a ball. I reinstalled it using Gorilla Glue and it's still going strong.

Exact glue I use on ALL tips, both leather and phenolic! The only phenolic tip that has ever "popped" off was due to a miscue!

If you're having this much trouble, I would suggest installing a ferrule/tip combo and thread it on! I only use the tips for testing the hit, in case a customer is unsure of what they want. Then when they come back and like it and upgrade to a ferrule/tip combo, I take the cost of the tip off the price.

DITTO!!! i did get a bad tube of it once.
who knows how long it was on the shelf though. :rolleyes:

exaxtly. i had 2 tips come off.

1 was a phenolic and the guy miscued AS HARD AS HUMANLY POSSIBLE. it was sick the ball like went sideways

2 triump tip with red backing. hate them tips. they dont glue well IMO

long story short i had a players JB the phenolic tip cracked. 2 years later it still didnt come off. i ended up breaking the pin in that cue but the tip didnt fall off.

i hits em hard
 
I install the phenolic tips the same method and pressure that I do leather tips... no problems!

Are you able to install a threaded ferrule? If not, send it to me and I'll put one on and only charge you the shipping back to you! No need to let it get you to frustrated!

its just more to rough the surface to get a good bond

Thanks for the offer I really appreciate it. I will keep trying stuff and if I can't find the right way to put this sucker on I probably will just put the single phenolic ferrule on. Like I say thanks again for the offer.

Try contact cement. Be careful not to get any on the ferulle and take your time when putting it on because once you mate the parts they will never come off.
