Good Luck to All going to the BCA Nationals in Vegas.

Keep a few things in mind before leaving and during your stay:

If you are flying, remember to pack your pool cues safely because they will need to be checked into baggage at the airport.

Never keep any money or valuables in your room unless you use the safe provided in your room OR you can always use the hotel safe. I don't want to see any posts regarding money/valuables cleaned up by the maids. Also, keep in mind that JAM had her lap top stolen recently at one of the better hotels. Electronics such as that are not covered by the hotel, so prepare yourself.

The drinks are free while you are gambling. IF you are playing the slot machines, be sure to tip your cocktail waitresses real well. They will remember you and keep coming back to you. Otherwise, you can expect to sit there with no drink regardless of what you are playing. I, personally over tip, but I always have my order and a drink or two for a friend. Remember that you have your tournament to play in. I have seen a lot of players either not make it to their tournament time and have disappointed many a team by being hung over and unable to focus on play or by not showing up. This happens way too often!

If you gamble, be sure and get a players card located in the lobby of any of the hotel/casino's you may be staying at.The points you accumulate will add up for free comps!

The best place to gamble the slots is NOT at the host hotel during peek days of play. For some reason the machines don't seem to pay out during those days. Circus Circus has a lot of great games and a poker room which a lot of casino's don't. The best time to play there is after hours when the kids are in bed. Slots of Fun and The Stardust is fun too.

The best steak in the area you will find over at Circus Circus Steak house, call for reservations. It is far better than anything around. The Italian restaurant at the RIV is excellent and the value of the day would be the midnight buffet at the RIV. You can get discounted coupons for it in a money saving book you will find at the big wheel of $40.00 play at the front of the RIV. Katy's at the RIV can be overpriced. The special is usually the best on the menu. They are closed early during the week and open all night on the weekends.

If you are coming from the airport to the RIV, the ride should cost no more than $15.00. Make sure that you tell the cab driver NOT to take you on the expressway. This is a trick some of those cabbies use. They will ask you weather you would like to go the expressway (which is far more expensive) or the back off the strip way. NEVER take the expressway!

Bob and I will be staying at the RIV. We are looking forward to meeting new friends and seeing old friends.

Any questions before you go, post em here!

Have a great time and see you all there.

Thanks for the Heads Up Eydie, I'm sure this is going to be valuable information.

You forgot to mention our AZB meeting though..

EVERYONE:
AZB GET TOGETHER AT THE SPLASH BAR AT 12PM ON WEDNESDAY THE 18TH OF MAY. FROM THERE WE WILL BE HEADING TO THE FURY BOOTH.

Oy boy am I bad! YES!!! Please everyone be at the Splash bar. I will also be working the FURY booth on and off.

Does anyone know if there is a $1/$2 or tiny stakes table anywhere in vegas at ANY of the Casino's? Like i said before i LOVE poker, but can't afford to play at a 5/10 table. I KNOW i can win at Poker, but I'm smart enough to also KNOW I CAN'T win playing scared with a bankroll i can't afford.

Try this same post in the forum at www.fullcontactpoker.com and you'll get about 1 million replies. If I remember correctly, both Circus Circus and Stardust have 1/2 poker games.

Also, regarding the slot machines, there is no good or bad time to play them - all of their payback odds are programmed directly into the machines themselves and the time of day has no bearing on this. The reason why most people think they pay off more at one time vs. another is simply because when the casino is crowded there are more players on them and more players means more winners. It also means more losers but that fact is rarely noticed.

My word to the wise based on some inside english would be to avoid playing slots at the Riviera because they are purposely tightened during the weeks that the BCA and VNEA are in town (by as much as 0.9% if my source is correct). That doesn't sound like much but it's enough to bust all of you. Stick with MGM Grand or Bellagio.

Ok, excuse my ignorance, but i watched a show about slot machines not that long ago, and appharently there is a section of 101% payout machines in most casino's? You win lots of Tiny prizes and have no chance of big prizes, but you are just about guaranteed to win. Anyone know anything about this?

Great. I will get to meet a lot of the guys that I see on the site and chat with off and on. Be sure to say hi to me and introduce yourself. This will be my first time there. A lot of the Fury Amateur Players are going to be stopping by the booth too. We will be having lots of fun. The only thing I have to get ready for is the time change from east coast to there. See ya soon

There's sometimes a section with 98 or 99% payout - usually they're $1 machines in a specific bank. If you ask at the cage for the loosest slots in the casino I believe they are obligated by law to tell you where they are. They are not obligated to tell you the payout percentage. I've never heard of a casino with 101% payback on anything and I think that's pretty unlikely and close to absurd.

Even if it were, however, that payout is based on the lifetime of the machine, and not on the lifetime of any specific play. It works on time values that have no relevance for the casual player. Sit at it for 5 years or so and you might see a 1% profit but for 20-30 minutes you could go broke just as easily as at any other machine in Vegas. Generally speaking, you should avoid slot machines at all costs (except perhaps video poker, which is semi-beatable). They are the worst gamble in the casino.

pool halls at Las Vegas

hi, Eydie,

Would you please suggest some decent pool halls at LV? I am not looking for any place for any sort of action, just to find a clean place to spend a few hours at with my buddies during the BCA tourny weekend.

Thanks for you post, very informative.

On the show i seen there was actually BIG SIGNS in the casino that said 101% payout. It was in a corner, but I'm pretty sure this type of thing exists in some CASINOS. I couldnt think of why they would do this and thought it was unlikely and close to absurd as well. But here is what i came up with. I think it does exist for the WIVES or NON-Gambiling friends of gamblers. If they can keep people off the GAMBLERS back, this would be one way. Thats the only reason i could think of a casino having a section that consistently loses.

Slots bore me to tears... it's the roulette table that I need to stay away from! What're the beer prices at the bar does anyone know??? :D

Roulette is a fairly beatable game. Just Bet a $1 on red and double your bet every time you lose. Reset back to a $1 bet every time you win. I got booted from a local casino doing this. You win $1 every time you win and you lose nothing on your losses. Depending on the table limit though it usually takes 7 straight losses to break you.

I won't be able to attend. Not that anyone really gives a shit, but I thought I'd say it anyway! :D

We aren't getting there until early that evening.

We don't like your kinda anyways. j/k I'm sure we will have another meetup at a later date. We could make Fury a AZB headquarters.

Some of us "give a shit". As I stated in another thread, I enjoy meeting people from here. I'm not going to make it either because I won't be there until later that night. I think it's going to be closer to midnight but I can't remember for sure. Either way I'm sure I'll still get a chance to meet a few people as I'll be stopping by the Fury booth to say hello to John and from the sounds of it, quite a few people from here will be at the booth through out the week.

Eydie, thanks for the travle info. esp the taxi! I'm a fairly impatient person and I know that had I been given the option to take the expressway I would've said yes! As it is, now I know better. Thanks!

You know, you really shouldn't use that kind of language here!

Hah! Man, I crack myself up sometimes (easily amused, as you can see). ;)

You're right! I should follow my own advice from another thread and keep that kind of stuff between the hours of 10pm & 6am! :p

Back to the "topic"... Do ya'll think you would be able to find me if I walked around with my name tag on my forehead?? :D

All pretty good advice except for the part about the midnight buffet at the RIV. I wouldn't feed any of the food @the Riv to my dog. The place is a dump as a casino & for food. Go to the Riviera, enjoy the pool scene, and then take the time to go other places to eat, gamble, and drink. The employees @the Riviera are horrendous as well. Rude, impolite, and get ready for a long line when you check in/out of your room. Play pool @the Riviera. Experience Vegas EVERYWHERE ELSE.
